Don’t waste your time watching it, it’s not horrible but it’s just cringy and the main character low key sucks and it might just be me, but he makes me so mad. It’s just very stereotypical, not worth it

An equally fun and tense engaging movie that gets you hooked by the plucky 90’s obsessed protagonists get pulled into a rabbit hole of dangerous drug peddling and scrambling to get their chance out of their tough neighborhood while trying to fight for their identities. The movie is well acted and the music is bopping. The tone is well balanced with humor and tension. The main teens are witty and their solutions to the problem is clever, but is arguably whitewashed as a fun heroic escape with the drug deals and blackmail without focusing too much on the trauma or the moral cost or even showing much development of the two best friends. That being said, I still had a wild ride with this movie and would say that it’ 2015’s hidden gem.

Dope sees Rich Famujiwa presenting an incredibly original film, both in terms of storytelling and perspective and builds on that with great performances (especially lead actor Shameik Moore), a banger soundtrack and the fact that it is not immoderate. I also really dug the film's cinematography and comedy. There are some themes that could have been handled better and there are a couple of scenes that either was put together a bit poorly or didn't feel connective to some other part of the story. In general, this is still a good movie that is worth a watch.

This movie was Dope! Can't believe it took me this long to see it. Soundtrack was on point and and the Comedy was great. The whole dynamic between the white dude helping, and the friend trio, was cracking me up! Don't see how anyone could not like/love this movie. If u want to watch a film that leaves a smile on your face, watch Dope!

Upbeat and entertaining. You just want to root for Malcolm and his friends. He loves the 90s too. I enjoyed this movie.

Don't usually like coming of age films as they tend to be unrealistic. Which is my main criticism of this movie. However, it was clever, lots of twists & turns plus likeable main characters.

"Dope" feels like it has way too much going on, but it is still pretty charming and has a unique style. To me, this isn't among the very best coming-of-age stories but there is some fun to be had with it. My favorite part of the movie is the ending which elevates it to an okay movie with the finished product. I thought it started strong and finished very strong but in the middle, my interest in the plot would come and go so it was hard to truly love this one. Overall, it is a movie I wanted to like much more than I did, but there is still enough to appreciate and enjoy because of how strong and satisfying the ending is.

DOPE is a fabulous character-driven coming-of-age tale that overcomes some predictable plot issues with consistently engaging style (and a great soundtrack).

It's a pretty corny movie - the grand reveal, the seemingly forced N word usage by characters for whom it feels unnatural, some semi fourth wall breaking stuff that doesn't fit, and the "punk band" scenes, oh my god. It also starts to get kind of long in the tooth mid second act. For a movie that's only just over an hour and a half, its plot really can't sustain itself long enough or well enough. However, it is certainly pretty enjoyable and calls attention to a subsect of an already marginalized cultural group.

Charming, cool as hell and with a killer soundtrack. Dope is a fresh take at your typical teen comedy movie and features a standout performance from Shameik Moore.

Starts really strong until falling in the second half, leaving plot segments untouched and ending a romantic plot instantly. Fun climax and many scenes, sure, but cheesy as well. You'll love the recognition of black nerds and their experiences, even if the story veers into a drug dealing plot that seems ironically unnecessary for a film named Dope.

Man, what a hilarious and unique movie. The cast does a great job of acting like high schoolers despite being many years too old. The humor is at its best when it embraces its dry, awkwardness, although the characters seem to sometimes forget how serious their situation is. The way the plot threads weave together at the end is extremely satisfying, and being wrapped up in a bow of 90s nostalgia only helps the experience. This has all the makings to be a modern "classic" teen movie.
