Dream Horse Reviews
The real strength of this film lies in its tremendous cast of character actors led by Toni Collette and Damian Lewis.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jan 16, 2025
It is only a supposed telling as it is primarily built around, at best, shallow re-creations, and, at worst, an active jettisoning of what should have been its most compelling aspects.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Aug 18, 2022
A good drama that has the misfortune of coming after a fascinating documentary. Dark Horse will be the place to go to hear the story from those it happened to, but taken on its own merits this is the light, feel-good movie many of us might need this year.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 2, 2022
The movie manages to be exactly what you would expect based on its logline, but it fulfills every expectation with crowd-pleasing confidence.

A feel-good Sunday watch, bolstered by the excellent and ever-underrated Collette.

Dream Horse is the type of feel-good, family film that we desperately need more of. A story of hope and perseverance, Dream Horse is a fist-pumping, heart-pounding joy to behold. I found myself smiling from ear-to-ear on more than one occasion.

Parents complain ad nauseam about the lack of suitable family fare, yet patronize comic book blow-outs, animated retreads and other effects-laden misfires. 'Dream Horse' is everything they could want: drama, uplift, comedy, and Toni Collette. Any takers?

Euros Lyn's unashamedly schmaltzy film is based on a true story and it is heart-warming, feel-good and family friendly.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 20, 2021
Cheese is its key ingredient.

Rousingly uplifting.

The film by Euros Lyn is not a tricky one in that it gives you exactly what it promises to.

Dream Horse isn't a bad film, just plain and mawkish. Its heart is in the right place, but horsey people will tell you that it takes more than that to win a race.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 6, 2021
This unapologetically uplifting feel-good flick is a clever combo of the only-at-the-races and the only-in-the-movies.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 6, 2021
Dream Horse sticks to a familiar sentimental course, but its off-kilter humour and a strong cast led by Toni Collette prove a winning combination.
| Original Score: B-plus | Aug 6, 2021
This is a small, sentimental and straightforward film that offers little in the way of surprises. Instead, it wins on heart and a simple message about the value in fighting to keep one's dreams alive.

Unlikely but true, the charm of this tale of a champion racehorse has everything to do with its tapestry of small town Welsh life and the low key characters who backed a winner
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 26, 2021
Going against the odds, the song and the familiar story cross the finish line in happy style.
| Jul 16, 2021
It's impossible to ignore the buttons the movie keeps gleefully pushing, and the parts of the tale that must've been smoothed out to elicit the desired cheer-inducing response - even around Collette's committed performance.
| Jul 9, 2021
Dream Horse is so stuffed full of sentimentality that it's almost impossible to consume.
| Original Score: B- | Jun 22, 2021
The small-town underdog story is an audience favorite that has worked for centuries, but Dream Horse's total aversion to risk or drama leaves it in the dust among its many similar-themed companions.
