Elvis Presley: The Searcher Reviews
Part 1 is better than part 2, but overall a great retrospective. Everyone knows Elvis the Megastar, but few know the man behind the image. The king lives on…
Too long but enjoyable for an Elvis fan.
In order to understand the PHENOMENON of Elvis Presley from the ultra-modern 21st Century's point of view, this 2018 movie goes a very, very long way in terms of showing what was the way forward, or how it happened, rather! -Suddenly, it really will all make sense. Moreover, it does seem that we have lost a very great deal or too much indeed now, in the transition from the 20th Century's capabilities through to the 21st Century's inability to comprehend the basics, even as we observe this some 20% into the 21st Century already.
Truly amazing, I loved every minute of this film and the story it told about Elvis the artist, the man he was along with his roots. Being an Elvis fan, I enjoyed this one as they delve into his past and explore where his roots came from to create his music from gospel, blues, and country music. You get to experience his joy in music along with his heartbreak and losses and eventually the joy of life that was sucked out of him.
An eye opener for sure. What a rise! Unfortunately, he said yes to the wrong person & no to the right ones too many times - which ultimately led to such a sad fall.
Fantastic! A unique look at Elvis the singer and the music that changed the world. The interviews with people that knew him are incredible. This movie is done in a great style with great photography!
This is the first documentary to do true justice to The King. It shows how his raw, pure, vocal talent drove him to a pinnacle nobody else has reached. He was not born into a musical dynasty, like Michael Jackson, and didn't need the Mafia to resurrect his career, like Frank Sinatra. He achieved it all on his own, by virtue of a voice that mastered rock, pop, country, blues, bluegrass, r&b, gospel, folk and operetta. As the film emphasises, he often switched from warm baritone to crystal clear tenor, and back again, in a single song. Great, must-see documentary that emphasises The King's musical roots.
A thoughtful and moving study that reminds us Elvis was a true Artist. I came away with a whole new appreciation of the man and his music.
HBO's three-and-a half hour documentary on one of America's largest cultural icons instantly engages the viewer as it digs into Presley's life in great detail as it shows how one man carved his way from poverty to the King of Rock and Roll.
41 years on from his death and Elvis Presley is still one of the biggest names in music and music history. It's true, the man became more of an image, brand, and business than he was an actual human being-even by the time he came into my consciousness and I was born a decade after his death-"Elvis" was more of this concept than he was a man. He was this mythic kind of figure who no one would ever see in the flesh even if he had lived longer than he actually did. The Searcher breaks down that facade not only hitting the beats of Presley's rise to fame, but why this little boy from Tupelo, MS and eventually Memphis, TN wanted to become a music man for the ages as well as digging into how he navigated these uncharted waters. "An artist like Elvis, he's actually pretending when he's home to be normal and when he goes out on stage at night is who he actually is." Damn.
I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but the lovingly in-depth, full scope of this 2-part documentary got me closer. I of course knew about much of it (his days at Sun Studios, the unfulfilling Hollywood years, his "larger"-than-life Vegas swan song), but it shined a light on so many things I didn't know. The rock lifestyle didn't get him addicted to pills; the army did. His extreme stage fright after getting back to music. His entire relationship with malicious Tom Parker. I went into this an Elvis-skeptic and came out a sympathizer.
A must see! If you are a fan you will love it, if you are not, you might be one after viewing! If you never understood what all the fuss is about, this might help you understand! Awesome!
It took 40 years for someone other than the fans to understand who Elvis Presley was, the artist and the person. Thom Zimny, with his immense sensibility, managed to look beyond the clichés, factoids, fake news and sensationalism, and saw the true meaning of what Presley left behind. The Searcher is Elvis's redemption, after decades of misrepresentation, idolatry, mediocre 온라인카지노추천 biopics with mediocre actors, pseudo-documentaries, and a cartoonish image created by countless ridiculous Tribute Artists , all piled up in a large pile of garbage unworthy of his legacy. The Searcher makes, in a very sincere and delicate way, the bridge between the poor boy of the rural South of the USA and the superstar who died solitary in his mansion also in the South. In the middle of that, it makes evident what remained in common between the two, the music and the search. Thanks Thom Zimny
