I am honestly a big fan of Lou ever since i saw the rare enough film THE WHITE DAWN. Usually I am a sci-fi lover, but this movie was just awful. Sorry Lou! Nearly as bad as the terrible movie soldier starring kurt russel;(

Good one! It may seems slow at the beginning, but it's cool.

I loved this movie as a child. The possibility of seeing your enemy as more than that once you can understand each other was a great theme. The acting of Louis Gosset Jr in a full mask was incredible. I would recommend it to anyone.

A memorable movie treat, emphasising the story more than the effects. Barry Brookes Longyear's novella probably makes a parallel that touches the USSR/US Cold War reality which made it popular in the Soviet bloc. I also watched it as a child from the socialist bloc of Eastern Europe perspective. I could feel the messianic message of the final scene, both hopeful and inspiring. The relatively low percentage here, vs a cult following in the East is attributable, IMHO to the West/East values differently emphasised in 1985. I love it for the humanistic, and partly Christian, but mostly universalistic message and the energy with which young Dennis Quaid delivered it. It is yet another underappreciated Gem.

Great story telling between cultures. I haven't seen this movie in over a decade and its still a great film. Definitely a must watch.

Enemy mine is a sci Fi film about a group of humans fighting against some aliens called braks. One day the ship crashes and everyone on the ship dies except for 1 human played by Dennis Quaid. And he meets another alien but shortly after realizing how dangerous it is on his own he becomes friends with the alien . Then they find ways to survive and fight off the humans and aliens . This movie is visually stunning even for 1985 . It's very impressive to see what they pulled off for a sci Fi film. Movie has some good action sequences and is entertaining . A pretty good movie if you like scienceing humans fiction. But not on the same level as star wars . 3 out of 5 stars Parents guide/ Christian perspective Violence : lots of explosions aliens fight human . Alien nearly takes of the main characters leg but is saved by another alien . A man shoots another man with a ray gun and then the man dies by falling into a lava pool. Language : 1 mis use of gods name in vain for Christ sakes is said once . S word said a few times and one or two b words said . Hell said once or twice. Sex none Drugs none Nudity none.

Awesome movie. Practical effects are really good for its time. Good buddy movie.

Well-intentioned but kind of sloppy. The premise is pretty nice - a human and an alien, at war with one another, find themselves stranded together on a hostile planet and must work together to survive. But it's been done plenty of times before, the ideas of "we're not so different you and I", the focused military guy realizing that his cause may not have been righteous all along. Plenty of Westerns have worked with the same material before, plus more realistic characters and the benefit of more than a century of nonfiction hindsight. The visual effects and the performances of the two leads (Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr.) are high points, and the script manages to sell their friendship as something more than just a generic coming-to-terms (Gossett in particular doesn't have a lot of name recognition for an actor with an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and a leading man Emmy), but once the latter makes his exit stage left, the film devolves into a pretty dry action finale that doesn't live up to the promise of the film's first half. Plenty of clichés that sink what could be a really good premise with a different approach. One fascinating standout scene is the space station funeral. There's a sincere prayer being read, a wreath launched into space, but then a record scratch and we cut inside; there's a conveyor belt of wrapped corpses, stacks of identical wreaths, and a console to play prerecorded funeral services staffed by two bored technicians. It's a great moment in a film that is otherwise relatively predictable in its worldbuilding. (2.5/5)

Enemy Mine was not the movie I expected it to be. Instead of a sci-fi action movie, this is a unique drama about race relations. It can get really cheesy at times, especially when Dennis Quaid is being overly dramatic. but I was very impressed with the make-up on Louis Gossett Jr. and the other creature effects. They still hold up quite well. Not many 80s movies can say that.

Not sure why people voted low but I suppose the trend now is blood and guts. If you appreciate feeling and psychological wranglings then as far as humanity goes this was one of the most memorable films I have ever seen.

This film entertained me, but, more importantly, it made me seriously contemplate human flaw — our seemingly reactive tendency towards adversarial perceptions of ‘them' based on superficial traits, especially race. More so, what humankind may need to suffer in order to survive the long term — from ourselves! — is an even greater nemesis than our own politics of difference (in this film, it was the inhospitable environment of an alien planet), against which we need to unite and withstand. The film's two primary characters — human fighter pilot Willis Davidge and his enemy, the reptilian humanoid Jeriba Shigan — are basically forced to exist closely side-by-side in order to survive, but soon discover just how similar they are.

based on the novella by Barry B. Longyear and directed by Wolfgang Petersen Late in the 21st century the nations of the Earth were finally at peace But a new threat almost shatters it, enter the Dracs whom are hostile alien forces and humans have been fighting for years the Dracs are reptilian-looking and are like hermaphrodites able to be both male and female and give birth to offspring a fortress in space is their only means of safety and transportation Dennis Quaid as Willis Davidge becomes stranded on a strange planet but he's not alone he's actually stuck there with another Drac named Jeriba played by Louis Gossett, Jr. both of their races are sworn enemies but are slave to this odd world; it's like a minefield of many dangers from earthquakes to meteors to creatures trying to eat them sooner or later they'll have to tolerate one another in order to stay alive which won't be an easy task, if the planet doesn't kill them they'll end up killing each other Jeriba claims his people are only explorers while Willis claims humans know more than just fighting protecting the universe from invaders but maybe they have it all backwards as they were brought up It's a nice sci-fi film about established rivalries, unexpected friendship, teamwork, survival, learning cultures, and putting aside petty differences Willis and Jeriba are natural enemies because they were taught so, but over the course of the movie they turn into allies because they have to be, and wouldn't you know it they became like brothers looking out for each other even the most bitter of enemies have to find a common ground, perhaps one has to look at another face, one will always see another as ugly during a struggle, instead of hate we should extend love to another, maybe two warring species aren't so different after all the first hour pretty much sums up the movie, the last 45 min you could pretty much stop there and you'd be satisfied this did go in a direction I wasn't expecting but does give Willis a much deeper understanding of not judging another just because they look dissimilar and being able to bring together warring sides solid effects, well-designed world, Quaid is excellent but Gossett gives such an impression under all the latex makeup and if you can accept the new path the film goes during the final third there's a lot of excitement and emotional moments that resonate

This is a nice cheesy Sci-Fi movie from 1985. It takes kind of an unexpected turn about 45 minutes into it. Louis Gossett, JR is pretty good as the Alien. Dennis Quaid is not the best actor and this movie shows off his limited acting ability. The special effects are pretty bad, but the costumes of the Aliens are decent. Just when you think the movie might take itself too serious...Brion James shows up with black dyed hair and a ponytail. He is really bad as "The Villain", which is good for this cheesy movie. It's entertaining provided you don't take it that serious.

Story/Screenplay: (2.5/5) A sci-fi flick with a saccharine aftertaste: an unusual combination. Had potential, but felt a bit silly at times. Duration/Tempo: (3.5/5) At 1 hour and 48 minutes, it's an average length movie that felt short. Good action scenes. Cast & Crew: (3.5/5) Dennis Quaid did well, as did Louis Gossett Jr. Nothing spectacular, but good enough to be good. Summary: (3.5/5) The story was flawed, but the cast was decent and the film felt short. Overall, a borderline thumbs up.

Pretty boring, bad sets and effects, good story.

The movie leaves out a lot of The book, but does cover enough of the important aspects. The title alone was incredibly clever and very adeptly Tells the reader The essence of this story: 2 mortal enemies form an unbreakable bond It was a bromance before that was even a thing. Read the book, as well.
