The English Patient Reviews
I remember watching this movie and being really bored with it. It’s so slow and everyone is literally whispering. I’m not saying it’s so bad but it’s not so good either. You watch it for only one time and never go back. Like if it’s on tv you can watch it. But after that you would never say “hey let’s watch this movie again”
Initially you might think it is a bit stylized at the expense of substance. Maybe the sub-plot is a bit wooden. But as a whole it is totally eviscerating.
You've got to be kidding me
A 90s classic! The acting is superb, the music is masterful, the cinematography is flawless, and the script does justice to the book (as much as a film can).
Beautiful all round - cast, story, scenery, sound.
its a thinking film and it has some good looking shots too.
IMO, the most beautifully realized big screen love story of all time. Gorgeously shot, with powerful performances by the two leads. I will always come back to this film.
So long and slow! Seemed like it would never end.
This was the first movie I ever watched with my future wife and her parents. It’s been 14 years and we still discuss how me making them watch this movie is probably the most horrible thing I’ve ever done to my relationship with her parents. My mother in law said it was the most boring night of her entire life.
If I had to choose three words to describe The English Patient, I'd pick slow, sluggish, and sad. The film's leisurely pace becomes tedious early on, and its bleak story is utterly depressing. Despite the exquisite performances of the entire cast, not a single character is likable or relatable. It's easy to see why the film won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, among others, but it's not particularly enjoyable.
"The English Patient" really surprised me. I found it a bit slow and too long, but it was still very captivating. The story is deep and emotional, and the actors did a fantastic job. Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas had great chemistry, making their love story believable and moving. The film’s scenery was stunning and added to the overall mood. Even though it dragged in some parts, I can see why it got so many Oscar nominations. The cast was strong, and their performances made the characters come alive. Overall, it's a film with flaws but also many beautiful moments.
The English Patient may be the saddest film I’ve ever seen. I didn’t expect to be so moved, and I was absolutely devastated by a love story about two imperfect people with WWII as a backdrop. Superb acting, Superb writing, Superb costumes, Superb directing.
Beautifully shot, great acting. A bit slow, which might not be for everyone but worth watching.
Excellent movie. The pacing/timing may not be for everyone, but the theme, acting, and elements are excellent.
I did rewach it yesterday. I think it's the fourth time i saw it. Amazing
This movie can be described as a potent epic melodrama. The emotional strength grows considerably towards the end and that is certainly a plus. However, the fact that this movie uses and even abuses some formulaic cliches, is also something that must be told. But if you like big melodramas told in flashbacks, and enjoy romantic scenes shot in the desert, you probably will like this one.
sensationell from first minute to the last, brilliant cinematography
It's a movie I want to watch again and again, but sometimrs it's like reviving an old love affair, the rollercoaster of emotions is almost too much. Pitch perfect performances, finely intertwined flashbacks that highlight the director's mastery of time, and wonderful scenery. They really don't make 'em like that any more.
It is rare to give a five star review, at least for me, but this film has earned it. It is exactly as the rating states, an absolute must see. I don't know if I am more drawn to the style of cinematography, the time period in which the movie is set, or the incredible acting. There are some incredibly moving scenes that speak to real, raw human emotions that we have all likely experienced. You should absolutely watch this movie!
It is beautifully shot, wonderfully scored and the cast are magnificent. A heart breaking love story to watch, but a magnificent one, from the opening shot of the Biplane flying over the dunes to that achingly magnificent score, I was hooked.
