Entanglement Reviews
Tries to be a drama about mental health, a missing-person mystery and a twee romantic comedy at the same time. It succeeds at none of it.
| Original Score: C | Aug 10, 2021
The scant 85-minute running time is padded with too many musical montages that leaves us simultaneously wanting more and less.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 4, 2021
"Entanglement" doesn't break the indie rom-com mold, but it warps the framework enough to provide intrigue. A modest, enjoyable charmer.
| Original Score: B- | Jul 1, 2020
Not essential viewing, but if you're looking for something off the beaten path that's different than the rest, this is a twisted bit of comfort food.

... it's also a film that when watched at the right time in one's life, might have quite an effect.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 12, 2020
Entanglement shines a spotlight on how vulnerable we can be as we swim through the lugubrious waters of a permanent estrangement and proves that no matter how weak and hopeless we feel our lives are often much more enjoyable than we care to admit.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 2, 2019
In trying to fit itself into a linear form, "Entanglement" shares some of Ben's discomfort, occasionally raising bigger questions narratively than it has the answers for, but the ambition throughout is so admirable that you're moved by the effort.

What's really annoying about Entanglement,... but can do no better than coincidence. That's not quantum entanglement, that's flat storytelling.
| Original Score: C- | Aug 28, 2018
Annoyingly, the idea evaporates in the third act twists and turns...it's light diversion that aspires to the glory of its quirky rom-com ancestors but misses the mark by taking itself too seriously. It's also tonally off in the approach to mental illness.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Feb 21, 2018
Such is the peril of quantum reasoning; the knowledge that there are an infinite number of worlds that contain better movies you might be watching.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Feb 21, 2018
For a film that requires an emotional buy-in, the characters lack sufficiently realistic grounding.

"Quirky," "cute," and "weird" may be overused adjectives, but sometimes those words fit, and sometimes those tropes do work well.
| Original Score: B- | Feb 21, 2018
When the smoke clears and it has made its jabs at other films of its ilk, this is a charming, clever depiction of mental instability.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Feb 21, 2018
This is as surprising a romantic comedy as I have seen in some time.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Feb 21, 2018
Entanglement ... has more than a quantum of entertainment value, offering up gentle truths about life and happiness, as well. Good times.

For moviegoers who don't mind shutting down their rational brains in order to enjoy 85 minutes of likable escapism, Entanglement will be just the ticket. Probably.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Feb 9, 2018
[Jason] James' assured timing and visual knack almost mask how strained and half-baked the story is.
| Feb 9, 2018
What might have been a light recommendation is made rather definitively garbage by an ending that aims for subversion but ultimately butts up against a harsh reality.
| Feb 9, 2018
There's little doubt that Entanglement gets off to an almost unreasonably underwhelming start...
| Original Score: 2/4 | Feb 9, 2018
I'm not one to blindly look past the same clichs every romantic comedy pretends are unique, but this project does transcend its surface if you let it.
