Everybody Wants Some!! Reviews
The movie sucks bad! Is like sitting and wasting your time and you know it. At least give me a movie that my time doesn't feel is wasted. Just talking and being witty with each other, no plot or nothing happening. Just sucks.
A wonderful return to form for Linklater, Everybody Wants Some!! proves that the director has still got it in him to make a movie about nothing with amazing character dynamics and some of the best dialogue in Hollywood.
I’m a big fan of Dazed and Confused, and I’ve read that Everybody Wants Some is considered its “spiritual sequel”, but this movie is decent at best. It plods at times and the characters are not very likable. Also, most of the male actors looked way too old to be playing college kids.
Feel good and silly, and such fun music. Glen Powell walking around with a pipe is iconic and he steals the show. But overall, it’s a bit slow and I was hoping for more plot wise.
Every bit as good as Dazed and Confused. Loved this film - can't believe I didn't know about it until now. Had a good laugh, loved the nostalgia, and the soundtrack was excellent. A must-see "set in the 80s" film.
This film has absolutely no arch. This is the worst film I'm ever seen and I've seen 'Ishtar'. Soundtrack was the only nice thing I could even say.
Pure nostalgia, but no real story. It takes an hour for something to develop beyond just character exposition. If it weren’t for the topless hottie I’d give it a zero.
So good it's scary. Bars and parties and discussions and people right out of my college years. Saw it when it came out but it's even better on rewatch, Linklater doesn't waste a word or scene. Worthy spiritual successor to Dazed & Confused and should become a classic in its own right.
amazing film. i'm not afraid to stick it in and break it off. pressure is a choice. practice like you play, maaan. :) LOVE THIS MOVIE.
I'm fascinated by Linklater's ability to find depth in his characters. Here he takes a group of guys who'd typically be straightforward macho assholes and carefully layers them with philosophies and interesting personalities. If anyone else had made this movie it would probably be unbearable.
Terrible. Like Dazed and Confused but somehow much worse.
Awesome movie. So much fun. Moves quickly. Glen Powell, Tyler Heochlin, & Wyatt Russell are amazing. Everyone is good. So disappointing to see what a low box office number it got, and now it's never streamed on any major platforms. This movie just needs more eyes.
Not everybody wants this.
I would have been turning 14 in 1980. But what I remember most about my generation are the fads, the insurmountable eclectic music, the fashion, and the easiness of our speech. In today's world, I believe everybody wants to have the Retro experience.
So Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!! doesn't have much of a story to speak of and there really isn't a whole lot in the way of comedy or drama and you never really get to know much about the characters, of which there are many, but for those of us who attended university in the late ‘70s and early 80s, it feels like one hell of a nostalgia trip. The premise? Set over the span of a few days, freshman Jake (Blake Jenner) arrives at college on a baseball scholarship and proceeds to drink beer with his new teammates, ogle girls, listen to some great music, play video games, and hit bongs. And that's about it…at least until the last twenty minutes or so, when it all sort of comes together with some meaning and teenage philosophizing. It doesn't come close to Linklater's Dazed and Confused, but at least it tries.
A damn good time in college
Amazing film, really is the subtle sequel to the OG Dazed and Confused. There are so many scenes that are just such pure representations of fun - real fun, like the kind that happens in actual life - that you can't help but have a giant sh*t-eating grin on your face as they unfold. And at the end of it all, there are no answers, nor do there have to be - the journey is all. There's no plot, but saying it's pointless would be like saying life is pointless. It merely lacks argument, showing a process unfolding and providing moments of discovery - moments that seem infused with meaning without needing to explain themselves.
Everybody Wants Some is everything I have ever wanted in a movie. One of my favorite movies is Dazed and Confused, which is about a bunch of high schoolers in the 70's partying on the first day of summer and mainly the new freshman going through hazing, new experiences, and getting introduced to high school. Everybody wants some is like a college spin off of Dazed and confused. It is about a college baseball team on the 48 hours before school starts mainly following a freshman pitcher and all of his new experiences being in college. This is a true feel good movie and I can watch it 100 more times. It is very relatable to the college experiences that I have had which makes it that much better to watch.
