I don’t understand why this movie didn’t perform well with critics. It’s an epic without a dull moment. Great acting. The ending is a bit hokey, but it ties into the beginning of the film and is intended to convey a bit of whimsy. You can decide for yourself whether it was successful.

Starting to watch this movie i already was skeptical about this being good; due to the neon green font- Like you could have have chosen a better font? But actually in general the movie was good! It really shows a old "modern" life and it was actually really satisfying to see how people lived, talked with each other, worked, and etc... the entire land owning premise of the movie was also a good key to show where people stood with each other; really good representation! The cinematography was great, the actors, costumes, scenes, and props were amazing as well and honestly really happy i watched the movie! Really opens my mind to WAY before my time and how people survived. One thing i didn't like was the ending, it didn't make sense to me of how Shannon was just so chill about everything (finding Joseph again) and also Joseph dies and then just....doesn't? I feel like the ending was rushed which is something i really didn't like about the movie, but other than that the movie was really cool! Also i saw this movie was PG, i wouldn't rate that, i would rate it about either PG-13 or 16+.

As an Irishman, I think this movie is great fun. Despite some terrible Irish accents from the American actors, the movie is quite fun. If you told me to pick someone to direct an American produced Irish period piece romantic movie, Ron Howard would be pretty far down on that list but he actually does a really good job. I have no complaints. John Williams made an absolutely incredible soundtrack that's one of the best of his career. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are both quite good in their roles despite their hilariously bad accents. They both play their roles well and have good chemistry with each other, because they were married at the time. As a Star Trek fan, I loved seeing Colm Meaney show up in this movie. And he actually did a really good job. Colm Meaney is actually Irish so of course he didn't have some terrible accent or anything. I genuinely liked this movie. I thought the Irish accents were funny but the movie itself isn't bad and neither are the performances.

Love it when Tom Cruise does the Tom Cruise run, coolest thing ever. (I watch all his movies for this purpose).

I'm not sure what's up with the low ratings for this movie, but I love it! It's one of my favorite movies from the 90s. Romance, adventure, and great acting throughout!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this movie at all, but ended up loving it! It was an epic journey with a great love story that left me with a smile at the end of the movie. Really enjoyed it!

This movie gets off to a rough start, but it gets a lot better. I honestly think it's almost as good as The Titanic, if you trudge through the beginning, I think you'll find that it's a good movie.

Seppur in alcuni passaggi si evidenzia una teatralità esagerata ed alcuni dialoghi siano melensi e noiosi; il film ha un buon impatto e il racconto è credibile. Tom Cruise come fighter sembra una caricatura, come del resto molti personaggi che gli girano intorno. La scena finale invece è ottimamente costruita e la corsa con i cavalli ha un fortissimo impatto visivo; basta questo con una buona trama a creare un film sufficiente.

I can see why critics hate this movie. However, to an average person, this movie is amazing. The two main characters' love story will have you invested throughout.

Was this movie good? No. It tried so very hard to be a serious epic about immigration but I kept getting distracted by Cruise. While his acting is fine for a script this bad...it's his accent that just makes me giggle. He can't be serious with that bad of an accent (thank goodness he didn't even attempt in Valkyrie). However, right when I thought it was getting good, it disappointed. The saddest part of it all is how much potential was there. How good it could've been based on the interesting premise. But no. There's a few genuinely good scenes throughout but is it worth full watch? Probably not.

Not quite a Titanic, or Braveheart film, but it has a similar feel, with just a pinch of Snatch/Fight Club bare-knuckle boxing appeal.

This is my favorite movie of all time. So romantic and an exciting time during the expansion of the west. Best Tom Cruise has ever looked. He's such a cute Irishman!

I really don't understand the poor reviews. It's not Shakespeare, but it's a serviceable plot and certainly enjoyable - to me anyway.

this movie was pretty bad, the cast sucked and the plot and story was stupid. Tom Cruise did not make me feel like he was indeed in the Danger Zone. The highlight of the movie is when Tom Cruise Punches his Horse.

Love this movie! It's got everything you would want: drama, romance, action, comedy, and historical context. I love these kinds of movies.

Ron Howard tuvo a los actores del momento Tom Cruise y Nicole Kidman. Tuvo un guión aceptable que no supo engrandecer. Ésta película visualmente es espectacular. La historia es acerca de 2 personas que viajan al territorio de los EU a probar fortuna y a encontrarse no si antes hacerse la vida imposible el uno al otro(¿suena familiar?). Una historia basada en casualidades más que en profundidad artística y narrativa. Después de ver diversas películas con temas similares, se queda uno con un sentimiento de decepción al ver cómo fueron desaprovechadas tantas buenas oportunidades y nos quedamos con algo apenas bueno.
