Fitting In Reviews

Apr 26, 2024

Maddie Zeigler is a revelation as she carries this movie with emotional maturity and a stand-out performance. Emily Hampshire is a treat as the over-wrought, but loving mother, with a performance that will make you forget she was the girl behind the counter of the motel in Schitt's Creek. The movie tackles a topic that is difficult, and turns it into a tour de force in dealing with the anxious teenage challenge of fitting in when there is something different about you. Tasteful, humorous, sensitively written and directed. A secret gem which should be less of a secret.

Molly McGlynn's semi-autobiographical narrative feature tries really hard, but misses the mark on multiple levels. First there are two major health issues and one is focused and the other glossed over and it just didn't work for me. McGlynn's disdain for most of those surrounding her isn't unusual for a high school student, but casting someone of legal drinking age to play 17 took me out of the film. Also the haphazard nature of how athletics is brought in. Yes, you can go from never running to a college scholarship, but not quite the way it's described here. Big ole swing and a miss! Wasted chance and such a shame! Final Score: 5/10

Powerful, riveting, and frightening. A polarizing masterpiece of a film.

I haven't seen this yet as I live in the UK but I'm giving it 5 stars as I have MRKH which the movie is about so I want to support the community I can't wait to see it.

I’ve been waiting for a movie about MRKH for decades, and this one delivers. Totally surpassed my expectations. My magic vag does not need to be fixed!!

An overall good message with decent presentation. Fitting In suffers a little bit by making the whole thing a bit overdramatic and drawn out, but then again, so is high school.

Being a teenage girl in a patriarchal world is hard enough. Add a reproductive condition that's going to mess with your first relationship, self image, and self worth? Lord Chile. Maddie Ziegler showed an incredible range throughout. Her ability to conjure such raw emotion and exude vulnerability, fear, and confusion while making you laugh 3 minutes later is remarkable. Great film with a great message. Love to Molly, thanks for sharing your story and making us all feel a bit more normal about our own unique abnormalities.

A smart take on the struggles of self-acceptance, with funny dialogue throughout. Loved it!

it wasnt a bad movie, just not one I can recommend seeing whole heartedly.. Yes this is a story about a tough medical diagnosis, and yes a movie about a teen trying to fit in..But one can only imagine as an adult even tougher time.. Overall grade C++, as the pacing was just too slow for my tastes..

Moving story of a young girl coming off age in a way not like others. Maybe it's better to have emotional growth before physical maturity.
