Haunted by a personal tragedy, home care worker, Shoo, is sent to a remote village to care for an agoraphobic woman who fears the neighbors as much as she fears the Na Sídhe -- sinister entities who she believes abducted her decades before. As the two develop a strangely deep connection, Shoo is consumed by the old woman's paranoia, rituals, and superstitions, eventually confronting the horrors from her own past.

Tara Brady Irish Times ...Fréwaka ambitiously mines Irish mythology and history for socially conscious spookery. Rated: 4/5 Apr 23, 2025 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org Guaranteed to make more than a couple of end-of-year top ten horror lists, with Fréwaka Clarke offers something culturally unique yet with a broader charm that speaks well beyond its immediate national borders Apr 16, 2025 Full Review Zachary Lee Chicago Reader Much of the horror derives from the disquieting mood Clarke can create by simply letting the camera be still; by its end, Fréwaka made me afraid of the shadows in my own room. Nov 2, 2024 Full Review Ygraine Hackett-Cantabrana What a Scream Podcast Fréwaka is a chilling reminder of exactly why Ireland remains haunted by both its past and present, and proudly continues the reign of Irish filmmakers in horror cinema. Rated: 4/5 May 8, 2025 Full Review Sarah Vincent Sarah G Vincent Views Clarke combines Celtic folklore with the Irish history of the Catholic church, especially with unwed mothers, as the backdrop and takes some evocative artistic liberties to flesh out the folklore. Nic F I loved this folk horror slow burner. Something original, in this well-worn area, with great tension and a really satisfying ending. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/13/25 Full Review Roberto G Not bad...happy to support an irish language film but it wont win any oscar...! Well made and acting good and no special effects which was a plus...also, music score impressed, if not a bit overdone...not sure if past traumas for the main characters were a part to play in the film...descent into a form of madness or not? Probs deserved more investigating there but the persistence on irish/celtic mythology took more precedence...overall a 5 out of 10... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Joel P Irish horror is horrible! Their IRA movies aren't bad. This is a mostly Gaelic spoken mishmash of Heredity/Midsommer/The Witch that leaves you wanting your time back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Jonas P waste of time. This is soo boring come on Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/01/25 Full Review Garry A I thought it was ok. The slow building dread through to the climax was good. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review Orlando C Satanic film you say? I'm in! I think I'll make sure to watch it on Easter Sunday! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
