Gerry Reviews
Filme ruim, o roteiro é horrível, esse filme não mostra nada, só tem dois cara no meio do nada sem fazer porra nenhuma o filme todo e foda-se.
A short lengthened with crunchy walking
The film is heavy with silence, inviting the viewer to interpret at will. Are they so close that they need no conversation? Do they have a goal or destination? Are they typically unprepared for their adventures? The lack of dialogue and the mindless marching adds to the sense of despair, makes a homicide look like an act of kindness, and survival a punishment. Very effective in conveying the devastation of thoughtlessness.
What an amazing waste of time. Fortunately, I had to water my lawn. Came and went several time and never missed a thing. Why?
WOW. Who are these movie critics on Rotten Tomatoes? A 61%? This movie was totally boring and the plot was even more boring. If I had paid to see this at a theater, I would have walked out.
cerebral.
Lazy filmmaking. Some 7-8 minutes of watching two people walking. Ugh. Torture.
With long shots no less expressive and only two characters, it manages to convey the loneliness and desperation that both young men face for their lives, reaching a point of no return. A strong and bitter film, I think a wake-up call to the aggressiveness of nature
This movie is not exactly for a wide audience. I find it ingenious. It seems to me that the movie tells the story of the main characters and the story of the filming itself at the same time, and it somehow merges into each other. It leaves the viewer with a lot of questions about the real nature of the main characters, and about the events that happened to them. The fusion of natural and unnatural sounds and long scenes of nature add to this masterpiece the final part without which the movie would maybe be empty and difficult to watch. The end of the movie and the whole story is also brilliantly performed. And the fact that this is an American film of this kind makes it even better. I will definitely watch it again.
Gerry is a film that most people will not enjoy as it is an example of non-narrative cinema. It feels more like a piece of art then a film. I appreciate seeing experimental films once in a while. This film was shot beautifully for having a relatively low budget.
My husband and I were astonished that two great actors could be in such a slow-moving boring movie. We actually had to keep advancing it just so we could see the ending. We both thought it was horrible! I did like the scenery, but the camera was so slow moving over it, I thought it was stuck!
Soooo slow. I gave up about 20 minutes in and fast forwarded through it and it wasn't much better watching the rest of it in a couple minutes. Not to mention the lack of conversation about food or drink the first day they were out there. If you've hiked, you know that's what's on your mind when you're not lost, let alone if you were. Was excited to watch this based on the ratings, very disappointed.
Someone watched too many Béla Tarr films. Films like Gerry pretty much divide an audience. No opening credits, no script, no dialogue for the first 7 minutes, long single-shot takes of the mundane, a lot of walking... I like a lot of Gus Van Sant's films, but his consistency is sometimes off and it's hard to distinguish sincerity from pretentiousness.
Affleck and Damon keep the jokes coming, one of the funniest films I’ve seen lately. Beautiful scenery to boot. A must watch.
Gus Van Sant confuses filmography for a motion picture as he tries passing off Matt Damon walking in vast plains and shots of beautiful landscapes as a movie.
Do yourself a favor and miss this movie. If you're in the mood to wallow in your existential angst, watch waiting for Godot. Or even Waiting for Guffman.
Are there zero stars? Negative stars? Two guys walking around for a hour & a half. What's to like? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. The worst movie that wasn't a slasher movie or a gross out comedy I've ever seen. The worst.
visually one of the most gorgeous films I've ever seen. and everyone who worked on it took huge risks as is seen by the 1 star reviews next to 10 star ones and rightfully so because this movie isn't for everyone and that's a good thing. the lack of dialogue and background info is refreshing and makes the film even more intriguing.
