Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Unfortunately, Ghost Planet is almost completely let down by its poorly written and delivered dialogue, that feels very lacklustre against the bold and out-there location. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 21, 2024 Full Review Alejandro Turdó Hoy Sale Cine Saving the best for the third act, Ghost Planet delivers an entertaining small scale Sci-Fi adventure with a lot of heart and tons of love for the genre making the best out of its budget constraints and teasing us with a potential sequel. A decent if pulpy script combined with impressive visual effects makes it an entertaining sci-fi outing. Pea K This is .. Okay! No it's better than Okay - as long as your prepared to forgive the obvious greenscreen effects, cheesy dialogue and treat this as a popcorn movie. The acting is cheesy, but I think it is supposed to be, the plot has some good elements (alien spaceships, borrowed hi-tech, flying cars, double-dealing - nope - make that triple dealing characters). It's fun to pick which bits are greenscreen and which bits are actually built sets, the clothes are a combo of 80's leisure suits and paintball, but it all works in a way that is fun. I'd love to see these guys do a Mega City One film (aka 2000AD comic strip Judge Dredd) as I felt that the big city scenes was the strength of the film - and it struggled a bit on the iron moon and toy vehicles - but overall this was more fun than most overdone hollywood blockbusters. It was kickstarter funded - available to watch free on Tubi - and it's worth twice that ;-) - seriously if you are in the right mood for cheesy sci-fi then this is an okay / good movie option for 1:45 of your time. Enjoy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Bobby K As a fan of classic SciFi shows, I really loved "Ghost planet". Written and directed by Philip Cook, this super fun SciFi movie utilizes great CGI to create a fantastical future world. Each frame features dazzling graphics and showcases the filmmaker's wild imagination. The set design is brilliant with incredible details. Joe Mays shines as the lead actor I found him to be charming and memorable. The “blade-runner” like car chase and climatic finale were interesting and enjoyable. As a SciFi indie film, "Ghost Planet" exceeded my expectations, and I found it to be a fun and exciting romp. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/14/25 Full Review TRAVIS G I just watched the movie GHOST PLANET. The movie has a lot of strong scenes that I enjoyed watching and which were very comical. The movie is written & directed by Philip J Cook. This is a cool sci-fi movie which is pretty neat and futuristic to watch. The movie has good dialogue and drama and scenes of friendship and camaraderie. It was also shot in a very cool way with many scenes that take you to the future.. The storyline pulls you in many directions as you're watching this movie. I thought all the lead actors all had great onscreen chemistry– they were great together. The sets are great for an indie movie. I look forward to what this director and filmmaker has coming up next! Check this movie out! You’ll remember it! Great themes and good mission and adventure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Catherane S This film was fun and imaginative to watch and Philip J Cook did a great job taking us on this journey. This group of siblings, set in a futuristic world, are traveling through space to stake their claim to a far-off planet that will make them wealthy, while navigating difficult and scary obstacles along the way. For a low-budget film the sets and special effects were outstanding. It's hard to point out just one, but the car chase was especially memorable. Naiad, played by Julie Kashmanian, was excellent. She had a sense of purity and honesty that was wonderful to watch, totally believable. I would recommend giving GHOST PLANET a look. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Pat H Ghost Planet manages to build a proper sci-fi environment with some clearly somewhat limited resources and then actually has fun with it. This isn't really the genre where you expect a “yes, that's me” voice over during the cold open, but Ghost Planet manages to keep things suitably light and engaging in a genre full of more ponderous approaches. The almost non-stop vfx are, of course, an understandably mixed bag (this doesn't seem to have been the kind of production where someone could turn on the money hose every time there was a challenge) but at their best they are genuinely impressive and certainly effective enough to immerse the viewer in the story world. Joe Mayes as Max Stone does some fun work here. There are some mild jump scares to keep things popping in the second half when the tone takes a turn for the darker. and the overall ‘team on a mission’ vibe provides an involving and quirky way to spend an evening. The final lines tease the possibilities of more adventures to come, and I'd cheerfully welcome the possibility. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/24 Full Review Jess W A group of astronauts travel to a desolate planet, uncovering a lone survivor who may hold the key to unlocking its alien technology. But when a gang of mercenaries show up, a deadly fight for survival ensues. It all makes for a pulpy throwback space western vibe that never takes itself too seriously, with a likeable cast and pacing that moves briskly enough to keep things fun. For a low budget indie, it also looks impressive, with almost every shot of the film featuring at least one complicated visual effect. It's incredibly ambitious and, having dabbled a little into VFX world myself, the fact that it's even possible to make something like this on a micro budget shows just how far we've come in the last 20 years. Well worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
