Ghostbusters Reviews
This is actually not bad, but it doesn’t hit the same as the first two ghostbusters movies. I like the idea of women being ghostbusters, but it just doesn’t quite hit the same. The cinematography, special effects and monsters are great tho.
This is movie is the best movie off the year 2016. If you look at this movie as an its own standalone film and not a sequel to the original ghostbusters, it’s a great movie will a great soundtrack.
Has an unfortunate understanding of the spirit of the Ghostbusters.
Great film so funny change from the normal Ghostbusters which I love they made the film great played so well together
This movie is such a good break from seriousness and stress, it's super funny, the jokes always land. The actresses did a absolute great job portraying the characters, and i loved how they incorporated the old characters. I don't necessarily agree about the "disrespect" to the old franchise, i wasn't that affiliated with it. I feel like this movie was partially butchered due to misogynistic beliefs coming from the fans of the old movies.
It is always risky when film makers remake a beloved classic. This is a different take on it. The jokes don't always work, but, Kristin Wigg, Melissa McCarthy and Chris Hemsworth make this version well worth two hours of your time. I will confess I missed Rick Moranis who was my favourite from the original.
This trainwreck presaged and embodies the collapse of Hollywood through deliberately vandalizing and usurping beloved franchises, lazy remakes, gender-swapping, girlbossing, identity politics, alienating and attacking your audience, calling critics all sorts of names, and then crying that the multi-billion-dollar company and the adult pretenders on the screen are being oppressed and victimized by the evil audience, as if they're entitled to our money and our attention. This is where it all began. Ghostbusters 2016 is now everywhere. It's in The Marvels, it's in Echo, it's in The Acolyte, it's in Doctor Who, it's in Star Trek: Discovery. It's everywhere. This is where it started.
Unwatchable :( I really wanted to like it, as the cast is really talented and are all funny people, but it’s really just the terrible script and direction. An all female ghostbusters could be just as great as the best movie (the original), but it’s really the script and director that are to blame here. They should have focused on a radically new and actually funny take on everything, ditched the cameos from the original actors, and given us something we haven’t seen before. The Force Awakens is largely to blame for all these awful rehashes.
The 2016 female-led adaptation of "Ghostbusters" aimed to breathe new life into a beloved franchise but ultimately falls flat, leaving audiences longing for the original’s charm and wit. Despite the promising premise of an all-female team tackling spectral shenanigans, the film fails to deliver on what made the original so iconic: clever humor and memorable characters. From the outset, the movie struggles with pacing and storytelling. The chemistry among the cast, including talented actors like Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, is palpable; however, this dynamic is squandered by a script laden with uninspired jokes and repetitive gags. The humor often feels forced, relying on overused tropes rather than genuine creativity. Many of the attempts at comedy miss the mark and are often cringe-worthy rather than laugh-out-loud moments. Visually, the film has its merits, with impressive special effects and a vibrant aesthetic that captures the supernatural elements of the Ghostbusters universe. However, stunning visuals can't compensate for weak writing. The film’s plot feels disjointed and lacks the narrative drive that could have made the comedic moments land better. Additionally, while it’s commendable to see a female cast taking on the roles of ghost hunters, the film often leans heavily on stereotypes and predictable character arcs that detract from the overall experience. The characters, rather than feeling fully realized, often come across as caricatures, which makes it hard to connect with them. In an era where reboots and adaptations are rife, "Ghostbusters" hoped to innovate the franchise for a new generation. Unfortunately, it serves more as a reminder of the high standards set by its predecessor. As a viewer, it's disheartening to leave a film with such potential feeling disappointed, and this rendition of "Ghostbusters" is a prime example of how critical writing and humor are to a successful comedy. For fans of the original or those looking for a truly hilarious experience, this film may leave you ghosted.
The original Ghostbusters is the best movie out of all made before and after this version, but this one is definitely the funniest. I was literally crying with laughter. Chris Hemsworth is hilarious as the dumb receptionist but Kate McKinnon steals the show. Truth be told I avoided the movie for ages because I just thought it was going to be a money making rip off, but I laughed more in the 1st 30-40 minutes than all the others put together. Highly recommended
By far the funniest film in the franchise. Actually laughed out loud many times. Especially the hilarious joke about god being drunk. The 80s films were great for the 80s but many of the jokes and gags haven’t aged well. This updates the whole thing and presents us will a brilliant and hilarious cast that really shine in these roles. I hope they make a sequel.
it's unwatchable. what a waste of a decent cast
Wonderfully funny, fun as its own story separate from the originals the cast do a wonderful job at making you laugh, just great
Sorry about this characterless pastiche of the original masterpiece. Actors saunter around the set in pressed clothes chatting with no gusto, rolling their eyes and pausing awkwardly for each others' lines. 2-second gags get a 20 second spotlight as if the plot depended on them, and fall flat. Music has no punch. Bad and clueless.
Just a fun remake. Entertaining to see the naturally funny cast obviously having fun. I think the negative reviews say more about the viewer than the movie. This is a good time.
As esquetes não funcionam, péssimas piadas eu demorei 3 dias para terminar esse filme arrastado.
I wanted to like this film. The studio not making this a sequel and just a remake because of the director's wishes was a big mistake. Kate Mckinnon's character could have easily been Egons daughter. What a missed opportunity there. If the director was afraid to step on anything that came before it, all he had to do was show the firehouse and get old props made off of Etsy and show that they don't work anymore. Kates's character could have then found old notes from Egon and built on that to make new equipment. The firehouse is condemned so that would explain why they are not staying there at least for now. The director just didn't understand the material. Dance numbers and just trying hard to be funny and a lack-luster villain is some of the reasons this did not get a sequel. Had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they were women.
Love the ghostbusters franchise so went to watch it in theatres with some worry. And it was terrible. It was sexist, the jokes were just toilet humour and I can't even remember if it had a plot. The older movies were witty with a bit of seriousness that worked well. This movie just fails to be anything worth watching.
I just saw this again 8 years later and it is so damn funny and clever. I know lots of men didn’t like that women could possibly be in their sacred movie but it’s 2024 now and they need to get over it.
This is what happens when you throw someone to the wolves to prove they're wolves too, if they'd just give them a chance. Remakes are extremely difficult, especially when you have an agenda that's as blatant as it is clueless.
