Giant Little Ones Reviews

Apr 27, 2025

Offering up all the feels of a film like “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” without that film’s self-awareness or showmanship, “Giant Little Ones” is among the best movies I have streamed in a long time. Mastering the arts of writing, acting and directing, this relatively quiet little picture delivers the sort of gut-punch magic so rarely found these days on any sized screen, all without attempting to lecture its audience or define the truths of sexual awakening. If you like to think and feel, but also enjoy being lifted, set aside 94 minutes and make this one a priority!

Ok, I’m a little late to the game, but what a beautiful, smart, heartbreaking and charming film. A real and true example of the complexities of queer youth. Excellent performances all round. Congrats to all involved.

Inspiring, heart breaking, and thought provoking. Truly a beautiful coming of age story that explored the intersections of friendship, sexuality, and family. I am so glad that I saw this film, and can only hope that I will see another film some day that moved me as much as this one. May we all hope to have more Franky's in this world.

I didn't fully pay attention to this film, I feel, as I couldn't help but wonder what I missed. Something happens between two characters which is the pivotal moment in the film but yet I feel like I didn't see it. I thought this was a pretty hum drum, run of the mill type high school/coming of age film, which didn't really appeal to me frankly. It got good average rates on IMDB but it didn't really interest me. I suppose people of high school age may enjoy it more than I did. It did seem reasonably well made but it didn't work for me as such. I wouldn't recommend it, no.

Wow! What a movie! Beautiful, an emotional rollercoaster. So clever, subtle and nuanced. I loved every moment of it.

I really enjoyed this. Great acting, and overall production. Glad it didn’t feel like a lecture, like many movies on this spectrum do. Would definitely recommend.

RATING: B+ Director: Keith Behrman Giant Little Ones is a fresh approach to the Coming of Age Genre. The work of the Cast, I think most were Newcomers, was really good. The Screenplay and the Direction from Filmmaker Keith Behrman was good. The Cinematography from the DP was really fitting to what one would imagine summer is. The film is a different Coming of Age Story, one that isn't always funny but Shows big Drama at points.

Exceptional movie that comes off as an honest and real depiction of high school sexuality and the rollercoaster of emotions that come along for the ride.

Beside the beautiful pictures and the amazing soundtrack, "Giant Little Ones has a bit more seriousness than "Love, Simon" but it still doesn't lack humor. I personally liked the open ending very much, since it forces the audience to reflect the whole subject. In general, the film rather challenges the viewer which I think is a very good thing.

Not really my type but I can also sit back and judge from a non biased stand point . Everything about this movie was undeniably above average 3.4. A coming of age and coming out movie, but it’s a little more complicated than that, there’s a bit of a twist

This movie takes turns throughout the watch leaving you wondrous on how it'll fold. nevertheless this movie isn't much about its ending than it's about how it ends, and that's what it succeeded at, that process is difficult, slow and unknowable yet somehow worth it.

Complex, moving, and intelligent in its portrayal of teenage life without sugar coating and sanitising it 'for cinema or television'. Brilliantly self aware film, with some fabulous direction and production.

This coming-of-age drama takes me by surprise in a good way. It delivers the right amount of emotions, complexity and characters in one film. I thoroughly enjoy it and I love how the plot doesn't force audience to think or see in a particular direction. The cast are perfect, the acting are sufficient and there are actual funny moments which lighten the mood very effectively.

Wow, really a great movie, it was an original story, great acting, and cinematography. I was alway guessing what was going to happen next and I was wrong every time. The movie seemed really real to me, not some made up BS.

This is a coming of age tale like no other. It's the story of two friends Franky and Ballas. The night after celebrating Frankys 16th birthday something happens that leads to Ballas fleeing from the house. The situation is unclear and when Franky returns to school Ballas has told everyone that Franky sexually assaulted him. Franky is confused but deals with the situation by retreating into himself. As the film goes along secrets come to light and Franky begins to come of age. It's a truly unique story and I don't want to ruin anything by saying too much. But the film stood long with me after the credits rolled. It's such a genuine, heartfelt exploration of youth and a discovery of where someone stands in the world. It's truly a groundbreaking film that deserves to be seen. 9/10

It doesn't leave a lot of impact while watching it, but it's writing is something to note here. May the ideas of its script help inspire future films to tackle the difficult subject of open liberated love.

A beautiful, sensitive and brilliantly acted movie that is sorely let down by its ending and a few key inconsistencies. Whilst many reviewers have lauded it for its refusal to pigeonhole the sexuality of its lead characters, I think it's a huge cop out. These guys aren't 10, they're 16/17 with trans friends, gay classmates and one even has a gay dad. These young men are living in kind and loving homes too. And they're white. Jesus! If they are gay they have a support network most kids can only dream of. Which kind of makes a mockery of the wishy washy, fluid, Gen Z pandering ending. Plus one of them seriously physically assaulted the other and yet the film never even bothers to cover whether the perpetrator was charged... Because, ya know, gay kids getting beaten to shit is like ‘whatever'. As for the last scene, don't even go there. We're left wondering whether the lead will end up dating his attacker or the attacker's sister (also a survivor of assault). What the actual fuck?
