Glitter Reviews

Full Review | Original Score: 2/4 | Mar 10, 2007

The best parts of this dud are the ones in which she's singing. This is what she does best. This is what she should stick to. Save your money and watch her videos for free on cable music-television networks.

Heroically bad.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Dec 30, 2006

This fails to convince on several levels: Carey's assumed edginess; Beesley's faltering Brooklyn accent; turns from such celebs as rapper Da Brat and soul vocalist Eric Benet; the half-hearted '80s references and the haphazard retro effects.

Glitter lacks sparkle.

| Original Score: D- | Jun 19, 2002

A sugary, over-produced power ballad of a movie.

| Nov 24, 2001

Hilariously inept showcase.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Nov 12, 2001

A vehicle that tarnishes as you watch it, leaving this troubled chart-topper lost in a sea of drunken, maudlin cliches.

A derivative mishmash of cinematic and real-life situations.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Sep 26, 2001

Carey, so vibrant and upbeat in music videos during the 1990s, simply does not register on the big screen.

have risen above screenwriter Kate Lanier's mundane show-biz saga.

| Sep 26, 2001

Though the story repeats every cliche of the form, it manages to get things wrong in new and fascinating ways.

Ms. Carey sure can sing but she sure can't act.

| Sep 26, 2001

Above all, the film is lacking in joy. It never seems like it's fun to be Billie Frank.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Sep 26, 2001

Infinitely mockable.

Full Review | Sep 25, 2001

Carey is weirdly blank and recessive.

| Original Score: D | Sep 24, 2001

Another of what have become far too common lately: unintentional laughfests.
