Good Morning, Vietnam Reviews
Great writing, cast, and quotable lines
Saw this movie when I was a kid and obviously didn't understand a lot of of it. Just saw It again and it is absolutely phenomenal. All the actors from top down were fantastic. Robin Williams is not only hilarious, he is such a great actor.
Last seen this in the 80s, and remembered it fondly. Re watched it today and what a letdown. The voices are good a trademark of RW, but the characters are terrible, the story sort of non existent, and just a boring film with a couple of good classic songs. A terrible film indeed. To think this and Full metal jacket was filmed about 18 months apart. Now that's a nam film.
This is always at the top of my list for movies I tell people they need to see
A fun and mostly lighthearted approach to covering the Vietnam War, as Robin Williams does his best to lift the spirits of the downtrodden troops in Vietnam. Forrest Whittaker is very sweet and adorkable in his supporting role, and the loudmouth insecure lieutenant is a riot to watch but heads with Robin Willaims over the radio show. The film is oddly almost pro-war and jingoistic, which is rare for a Vietnam film. But to be fair, it is subverted with the finale as one of the characters challenges Robin Williams' ideals on the ethics of the war and why the Vietcong feel driven to do such drastic warfare in the first place. It's not perfect, but there's a lot of sincerity and talent that helps it stand out from the other Vietnam War movies.
Definitely funny, Robin Williams doing what he does best. Overall the movie is good, not great. Def lacks some steadiness as the plot plays out. But I love watching it either way.
We all need a bit of levity, especially during war time! Adrian Cronauer is sent to Vietnam to bring some much needed optimism to the soldiers over the air, only for his irreverent take in the war itself to rub some of his superiors the wrong way, in which they try to silence them. Funny with its source material yet realistic in its portrayal of the cost of combat, this is one of Robin Williams most iconic films that is not mentioned more then it should!
Good Morning, Vietnam brings levity to war with Williams' killer improvisational skills and entertaining supporting roles, but the clashing tones fail to balance effectively.
This film will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. Great War film.
the war in Vietnam takes hold and times are tough thankfully Robin Williams steps in as a radio broadcaster to lightnen things up and grant us the power of laughter Williams is at his best again here with his fine acting, emotions, and clever impersonations I especially love Forest Whitaker in here as well always making something funny even when the impact of the war lingers over all the soliders and the country the plot goes alot deeper than you would expect, too theres also a cool philosophy on censorship and freedom of speech; that people should be told of whats going on and not be kept in the dark nice drama intermingled with the comedy made me laugh, smile, and think quite a bit
"Good Morning, Vietnam" is an absolute masterpiece and deserves every bit of its 5-star rating. This movie is a perfect blend of comedy and drama that takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. The film's standout performance is without a doubt Robin Williams as Adrian Cronauer, a radio DJ stationed in Vietnam during the war. Williams' incredible energy and humor are on full display as he brings his character to life, making him instantly relatable and endearing to audiences. His performance is so remarkable that it's hard to believe that he improvised most of his lines! The movie's backdrop of the Vietnam War sets the tone for a poignant story of love, loss, and humanity. The film doesn't shy away from depicting the harsh realities of war and the toll it takes on both soldiers and civilians. But amidst all the tragedy, "Good Morning, Vietnam" also highlights the power of laughter and music to bring people together. "Good Morning, Vietnam" is a must-see movie that will leave you laughing, crying, and thinking long after the credits roll. It's a timeless classic that continues to resonate with audiences, making it one of the best movies of all time.
Robin Williams' performance is outstanding, to the extent that even though the story lacks some dramatic elements, the entire piece can still radiate a sense of freshness like the air after rain.
For me, this was his BEST movie character. It was very much his wild, outrageous energy that made the movie.
A great comedy with serious notes. Great cast great performances and direction.
This one was alright, but just not for me.
Well paced with a beautiful performance by Robin Williams, worth watching.
This is Robin Williams movie. A vechile to showcase his talents. Aside from that, the story skims over some complex yet important issues, which is disappointing.
Another exceptional movie for Robin Williams and one of his top 5 best movies for sure! Forest Whitaker was so great in this too and his supporting acting was very key to this movie's nice success. Especially the bike chase scene as it is so funny riding that bike with zero wheels and just on the rims! Plus the bike is much too small for his good size. Such a good actor he is in so many roles over the years. It made me sad watching this again today finally after so many yrs gone by as it is hard knowing how good Williams was and then came his suicide death many yrs ago. He is thoroughly missed! Not sure if you can call this a war movie or to call it a regular drama movie set during war times but it clearly is war themed! To the odd very few people who have yet to see this...what is the wait?! This is exceptionally directed and they just do not make nearly as many movies to this grand caliber anymore! 9 out of 10! (All DAY LONG!) May 14/23.
Much of the humor in this film hasn't aged very well (a lot of it is referential, and the 'style' of humor didn't really connect with me), but it's still worth watching for being one of the only Vietnam war movies that doesn't just give a token shot at humanizing the Vietnamese but actually spends some time on it. That, and of course the amazing performance by Robin Williams.
Wasn't to sure about some of the storyline and plot that went on, but still superb film, loved robin Williams as the main character, very funny indeed, certainly worth a watch, although the older you are the more you will appreciate it
