Grace of Monaco Reviews
Dahan’s showy direction that overstates every scene; he tries to compensate for an emotionally inert drama with style and instead underscores how affectless the whole thing manages to be.

Viewing Grace of Monaco is like learning a flock of geese is secretly living inside your local library. It just keeps honking at the wrong times, all the time.

While Kidman is certainly a big draw here, an impuissant script and a lascivious amount of obsessive close-ups distract from a performance that appears to contradict the political turmoil behind the scenes.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Aug 30, 2019
The film isn't just bad - it's awful - ineptly directed (Olivier Dahan), terribly written (Arash Amel) and bafflingly acted by an assortment of miscast faces.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Mar 22, 2019
Like many ill-fated biopics before it, it leaves us none the wiser as to what this woman, who must have been as complex as she was fascinating, tick.

Forget austerity, Dahan wants to celebrate evening dresses and glamour: how very Cannes of him.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 14, 2018
The whole thing feels like such a poor excuse for a film: a laughable, over-frotted tissue of pompoms and camp footmen in which a charity ball is presented as a credible diplomatic manoeuvre as well as an important plotline.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Feb 21, 2018
Here, for a movie that attempts to portray such an interesting life, the result is pretty bland.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Nov 14, 2017
Grace of Monaco leaves you with more questions than it answers.

You never buy you're watching anyone other than Nicole Kidman. She's less tragic princess and more Stepford wife.

Whatever the real truth behind the fairytale, when Nicole zooms along the corniche foreshadowing Princess Grace's tragic death, you can't help but think she deserved a better biopic than this.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Aug 18, 2017
A mostly harmless and occasionally offensive affair that purports a "fictional account" of a true story.

There must be a better way to salute Kelly's real-life pluck and stature, but if this melt-in-your-mouth lollipop is all we can have, then we'll have it.

A forgettable movie made with "the best intentions". [Full review in Spanish]

Bad casting aside, it's a great production and at least is entertaining. [Full review in Spanish]

Oddly, the biggest problem with the movie is that her star, Nicole Kidman, is not a convincing Grace Kelly. [Full review in Spanish]

The movie falls short of what could've been. [Full review in Spanish]
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 28, 2015
It's all beautifully shot, competently (if snoozily) acted, gorgeously lit and costumed, and dull, dull, dull.
| Original Score: 2/5 | May 26, 2015
Despite all the money spent on it, it still looks cheap.

Kidman seemed a natural choice to play Kelly. She manages to soar in several scenes. Hampered by the subpar material, she seems utterly lost, unable to master what could have been the role of her career.
