Greta Reviews
Poor, unimaginative and illogical script and highly annoying slow burner.
Stalker flick; disturbing to be sure. I'd have given it 2.5 stars but Maika Monroe being in it immediately elevates it ;)
Fantastic little suspense film. Wonderful acting by a high caliber cast.
It was ok. I think worth the watch.
'Greta' is probably best described as a psychological thriller that follows a young woman called Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz) who gets 'lured' into a friendship with the titular 'Greta' (Isabelle Huppert), who is a lonely, manipulative widow. You can guess things don't end up going too well, but I'll give the film props for its ability to deliver tension and suspense with its moody atmosphere and eerie build-up, although the movie's greatest strength probably lies in its two leads. The two performances are nicely the polar opposite of each other. Personally, perhaps the thing I liked best about it was that the characters make - for the most part - logical decisions, rather than falling into the typical (mainly horror) trope of being dumb, just to move the plot forward. However, despite these strengths, 'Greta' feels like a familiar story. The “stalker-thriller” plotline has been done many times before, and this film doesn’t offer much innovation to set it apart, besides the performances and few nicely creepy moments. It follows a well-worn path, and while the direction and performances elevate it slightly, it never quite shakes off the sense of déjà vu. In the end, 'Greta' is a solid thriller, but not an essential one.
What a truly awful film this is, awful acting, awful plot verging on the ridiculous...a fit healthy young female in fear of a stick like older woman? Laughable
Not sure why the low scores. An entertaining movie from start to finish. A few holes here and there but overall a great movie.
Just stumbled across this movie on Netflix. It had totally passed me by and apparently is just about to leave Netflix. Thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns and most of my guesses where it was headed proved wrong.
I personally loved it, Very underrated movie
Unconvincingly put together, yet 'Greta' still somehow works. I felt watching that the film skipped a few steps in regards to the titular character, I wasn't buying how quickly things turned for the worse. The score in particular felt overdone, while Frances' reactions seemed a little overblown; at least based on what Greta had initially done. Then you also have the high convenience of the plot device, as well as a few stupid decisions made by the lead character (why go in the basement?!). With all that said, I can't help but say I did still enjoy it narrowly enough. Isabelle Huppert plays Greta very nicely, while Chloë Grace Moretz gives one of the best performances i've seen from her (based on 11 flicks) as Frances. Maika Monroe is a good cast member too. The short run time probably helps, as the pacing is relatively solid. Against the odds, I'd consider this a movie worth watching.
Honestly so bad. Don’t waste your time watching it. It’s not realistic at all and so frustrating to watch
It was pretty well done but Fatal Attraction is the best of this genre. Watch if there's nothing else on.
So underrated I could cry — Greta offers a fresh, original, suspenseful thriller that'll have you on the edge of your seat till its resolution.
Definitely not my type of movie but the ending is good so it's ok. Scary and creepy.
Greta is an okay film. It is about a young woman who befriends a lonely widow who's harboring a dark and deadly agenda toward her. Chloe Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert give decent performances. The script is a little slow in places. Neil Jordan did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and mystery.
This isn't a good movie, zero credibility.
It was a terrible movie with poor story and production.
An instant thriller classic!
Really enjoyed the concept and was having a really good time till about half way through and then the second half of the movie seems completely rushed and didn't match the vibe of the first half. It left me a bit frustrated tbh
