Gulliver's Travels Reviews
LOL, 1 hour and 25 minutes of humor. Rated PG for Brief Rude Humor, Action, and Mild Language. Starring Jack Black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is different from the original book yet it gives a weird modern vibe that is kind of enjoyable and teaches a simple but valuable lesson about the value of honesty and the consequences of a lie.
Why does everyone hate this? I just found that out! I love this movie.
The Most embarrassing film based on a book since Garfield 2.
7/10 - Good and short.
Fun fact about this movie: Although critics and audiences disliked it for being too gross and childish, the scene in which Gulliver saves the King from the fire in the palace by putting it out with urine is actually taken directly from Jonathan Swift's book. However, in the original novel, the person rescued in this manner is the Queen. The only other adaptation to include this scene is Gulliver's Travels (1996). Review: Fun, nothing more. The plot of the movie was out of place and time, I was surprised to hear when it was actually based on a novel, too bad the adaptation of it wasn't that good...Jack Black was literally the true Jack Black and kinda showed his true personality...For a comedy film it was way too out of place sometimes they tried to fit a romance snd an adventure genre in it,concepts that you can't put together perfectly and not make a mess, especially in a 2010 film. The ending was expected from the beginning and got me truly bored while watching i and ending exactly the way i predicted to lol.To be fair,i would recommend this movie to a friend caise why not it's a silly comedy and it's worth 1 and half hour of your time. Cinematography:6/10 Acting:7/10 Enjoyment:5/10 Casting:6/10 Soundtrack:6/10 Plot:5/10 Ending:5/10 Pacing:4/10 Writing:7/10 Environments:6/10 Overall:5.7/10
Rob Letterman's rendition of "Gulliver's Travels" is drowned by dull humor, bad acting (there are a few fine performances), and terrible script-writing. Unfortunately, the film's protagonist is unlikable for far too long of the runtime as well.
It's funny how (and why) people expect something close to the classic book. It's just a movie to kill some free time and it does that.
Average. Was pretty fun watch for the younger me during release year, but current me could not find it very enterntaining.
The Most embarrassing film based on a book since Garfield 2.
Promising trailer ruined by the awful movie.
Don't waste your time. This is easily one of the worst movies ever made. DEFINITELY don't watch if you have read the book. If you have then this movie will make you want to throw up (I know that's how I felt). If you want a good screen adaptation of Gulliver's Travels seek out the Ted Danson version. It's literally a trillion times better.
I LOVED IT ! 5 stars all around !!! Idk what the hell is wrong with everyone giving this good ass movie a low score wtf ! this movie was actually funny and kept me guessing I loved it !! Super cute actually haven't seen a good movie like this in a minute happy I found this gem on Disney+ I would recommend to everyone , to go and watch it right now !!!
The funniest star is Jack Black!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a fun train wreck of a movie. This is in "so bad it's good" category, or maybe (more fairly) the "I can't believe they got approval for this, but its funny" category. If your familiar with the source material, then you're going to get some nostalgic nods, but mostly this is a complete reboot / modernization. Jack Black basically moves in and become's Lilliput's deity guardian and disrupts the society on every level. The shear amount of materials used to accommodate Gulliver would far and away destroy Lilliput, but fortunately the movie doesn't focus on that aspect. Instead they have the a guy build a giant robot so they can squeeze in some Kaiju action. (Think King Kong versus Mechagodzilla) This movie has a stellar cast: Jack Black, Emily Bunt, Amanda Peet, TJ Miller, Jason Segal, the Irishman from the "IT Crowd", one of The Doctor's assistants, the older british guy that isn't John Cleese but you always think that MIGHT be him. Look, the worst part of the movie is the lack of substance, but it's Jack Black: he does what he does best, make you care about fun light-hearted comedy and there is nothing wrong with that. Not going to win too many awards, but will likely watch again.
Some funny parts but overall not good at all.
Story/Screenplay: (2.5/5) Was funny at times, but lacked enough smart humor to hold my attention. Duration/Tempo: (3.5/5) At 1 hour and 25 minutes, it's a very short movie that felt like a short movie. This was good considering the story was a drag on the movie. Cast & Crew: (3.5/5) Jack Black, Emily Blunt, and Amanda Peet were all memorable. T.J. Miller did well in a smaller role. Summary: (3/5) The cast was good, the film was short, but the story was not as good as it could have been. An unfortunate thumbs down.
This movie is wholesome family fun. Just a big stupid fun adventure comedy that features Jack Black at his best. (Right up there with School of Rock) Some people might not find this kind of movie sophisticated enough, agreed it's juvenile and puerile, but it's also a bit charming and just darn fun for the family. It's ok to be a kid and watch fun movies with no other reason then escape, lighten up RT reviews. I think the people who spend their time praising Oscar nominated rubbish shouldn't stoop so low as to come here on RT to seriously rate Jack Black movies??
