Happily Reviews
While seeing all of these comedic actors on a cast list might give you the impression of this being a straightforward comedy, the filmmaker rides this fascinating line between comedy, thriller, and domestic drama that makes it impossible to categorize.

With Happily, Grabinski proves that, even in his debut, he is already a master of tone and a serious filmmaker to follow.

For my two cents, Happily works by deconstructing our expectations of what a comedy/thriller/love story should be, more so because it asks to be mulled over, to be considered, to thought upon instead of forgotten as soon as the story ends.

It's as if the fun was all in writing the first act, and then filmmakers couldn't stick the landing.

Happily explores some interesting territory about relationships while adding on the tension of friendships that are not what they seem.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Apr 14, 2021
The film is for those of us who get as much pleasure out of a steamy, rock-the-bed romance as we do watching a businessman get murdered with a wooden block. It's for those of us who want something different.

Though you may come out scratching your head, the ride is totally worth it.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 2, 2021
Enjoyable and provocative as Happily can be, it just doesn't execute the premise effectively.

A stylish but uneasy hybrid of comedy and drama that ends in frustrating ambiguity.

Writer-director BenDavid Grabinski takes what's a snarky aside between some old married couples and tries, unsuccessfully, to turn it into a 90-minute comedy.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Mar 29, 2021
Grabinski deserves praise for his thoughtful blend of pitch-black comedy and high-concept storytelling.

[A] joyfully oddball work about friends who aren't your friends and the price one young couple must pay for always being happy.

Shows a remarkable sense of balance in its multiple tones thanks to a stellar ensemble cast delivers a timely, insightful and beautifully shot pic.
| Original Score: 9/10 | Mar 25, 2021
The film progresses in horror-film mode before, in its third act, tying things up in a somewhat clever, unexpected way. By then, though, you may have given up on this group.

"Happily" is eager for your attention, but secure enough in its own identity not to require your approval.
| Original Score: B | Mar 25, 2021
Happily may not be for everyone, but I liked it an awful lot. Give it a chance.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 23, 2021
Happily is an uneven film, one whose seams show more clearly the closer you examine it - a movie made up of quality parts that never quite fit together properly, though the sum of those parts is still worth experiencing.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Mar 23, 2021
Thoroughly enjoyed this very bizarre little movie.

Seems much more accomplished than a debut film. I really liked it.

Happily might have been more effective if it actually was the length of a half-hour Twilight Zone episode, but it is a whole lot of fun even with some flaws that keep it from true brilliance.
