What to Know

Critics Consensus

The main characters are maturing, and the filmmakers are likewise improving on their craft; vibrant special effects and assured performances add up to what is the most complex yet of the Harry Potter films.

Sukhdev Sandhu Daily Telegraph (UK) Where Newell really scores is in taking a leaf out of Peter Jackson's book and cranking up the fear factor. Rated: 4/5 Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian For those like me who are outside but sympathetic to the faith, it looks like another handsomely made, good-natured and high-spirited family movie, which is dramatically stymied through being locked within school grounds. Rated: 3/5 Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Victoria Segal New Statesman For the first time, adults might actually enjoy a Harry Potter film as much as children. Dec 8, 2014 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn Compared to the previous entry, this was rather boring but the world building was pretty cool. The teachers at Hogwarts are grossly incompetent. Rated: 3/5 Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn It's a bit overlong and drags at times but it sets up some really amazing things for future films. Also, Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman are fantastic as always. Rated: 3/5 Mar 12, 2025 Full Review Martin Carr CBR Tri-wizard cups may take centre stage in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but British director Mike Newell pushes the movie franchise further into adult territory and makes entry essential. Paul S This is definitely my favorite movie in the entire series. Seeing the world of Harry Potter expand was great, and the shift in tone from the other movies really made it stand out. I definitely recommend it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/07/25 Full Review Audience Member Not that terrible, only a few plot holes and some terrible choices. For example, during when Harry tries to get the dragon egg, the dragon literally escapes the arena and chases Harry around the ENTIRETY OF HOGWARTS DESTROYING WALLS AND THE PROFESSORS AND EVERYONE DOESN'T EVEN CARE. THEY'RE JUST SITTING AROUND EXPECTING NOTHING TO HAPPEN Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Mr. H I really love the Harry Potter films, I really like the cast, but this movie is one of the most disappointing in the entire series. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Kenneth H I would rate this one above Prisoner of Azkaban, but otherwise it is the weakest film in the franchise. This is due to the book being over 700 pages with tons of missing content. They trimmed the film down and it threw pacing off. Overall, a nice visit to the familiar castle we love. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/20/25 Full Review Audience Member Always loved these, even better in theater with some glistening popcorn and crisp lemonade >33:))) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Audience Member This is my personal favourite Harry Potter movie (I ADORE ALL OF THEM) and Hermione at the Hogwarts Ball... MY GOD... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Read all reviews
