Gina Carano, in her breakout role, brings an imposing yet effortless presence, executing some of the most fluid and realistic fight choreography in modern action cinema. Soderbergh鈥檚 signature precision is on full display, crafting a film that values clarity and control over excess. The action is crisp, the cinematography is sleek, and the film鈥檚 deliberate pacing allows tension to simmer beneath the surface. Carano鈥檚 natural physicality makes every encounter feel real, while a strong supporting cast鈥攊ncluding Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, and Michael Douglas鈥攁dds weight to the intrigue. Haywire is a masterclass in economic action filmmaking, proving that less is often more. I did not know who Gina Carano was when I saw this (which was about a year ago for the first time). She is a very special action actress in this. And "action actress" is not damning with faint praise. I'd call Frank Potente in the Bourne movies an action actress and she was amazing. Gina Carano's performance here is not quite up to what Franka could do (see also Run Lola Run of course), but considering the physical side of Gina's performance along with her jump-off-the-screen presence even when she's not doing the physical pyrotechnics, she's excellent. Not to mention the director and the rest of the cast! Would love to see more of these. Gina, forget about suing Disney if it's distracting you from working. Thank you. Rated 5/5 Stars •  Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Audience Member Over a decade later thought it was good but it SHOULD have been alot better MMA fighter Gina Carano can certainly act and kick butt, and still look sexy while doing it the fight scenes were cool, the music was slick, jazz-like, the imagery was gorgeous with the soft filter, and I like the rest of the actors my biggest drawbacks were though the enormous amounts of plot and exposition there's really alot of information to take in this movie looked like it was showcasing more of Gina's fight choreography but I felt the script needed some more momentum just be ready for alot of talking especially when it comes to the flashbacks this is though the female version of 'Jason Bourne' but with better edited action scenes and less shaky-cam Rated 3.5/5 Stars •  Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/25 Full Review SkyRo P Despite featuring some major stars and being released later in cinematic history, "Haywire" came across as utterly uninspired and tedious. The narrative seemed disjointed and haphazard, as if it had been thrown together without any real thought for an audience. Throughout the film, I found myself questioning what I was watching and longing for it to end. My enjoyment was non-existent. The director's vision felt chaotic and poorly executed, while the writing left much to be desired. When a film has such intense action sequences, it鈥檚 crucial to pair them with music that amplifies the excitement, but the score here fell flat and offered no sense of thrill. Ultimately, the film felt like a jumbled mess, lacking coherence and polish. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone; it鈥檚 hard to see how anyone could appreciate it.
