Head Count Reviews
It is one of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. Boring, slow, and utterly uninteresting.
Honestly disgusted by the negative ratings. It’s a solid film. Solid acting and could be reinvented as a mesh with John Carpenters The Thing…which…hello…is amazing. Jump scares are great. Atmospheric tension. Has you looking at every inch of the scene constantly.
If it wasn't for the Manos: The Hands of Fate Easter egg, I would have rated this lower.
Direction, and writing, to forget
Head Count brings a good-time horror heatwave that keeps viewers guessing, but the name of this game is always doom and damnation.
Horror movie targeted to a younger audience (the abusive use of drugs, alcohol and the F* word prevails). We have all seen this plot before: a group of teens is haunted by a supernatural creature (shape shifter) in the Californian desert. Next!
pretty solid movie. low to medium budget, but high quality. the monster reveal would be best left out of the film, but otherwise it's significantly better than what most of the reviews are saying. everyone in it is good enough at acting that the realism wasn't broken, and the ending was pretty nice.
I really enjoyed this movie! Had to watch a few times.
You can tell it's not supposed to be an A-movie, but what a B-movie! Clearly lots of talent from the cast and crew went into making this film and that's what makes it worth seeing. Highly recomended if you like the concept of shapeshifting and 'the killer could be among us' type stuff
this was fine... the acting is not great & there's quite a few just awkward/cringey parts -- which, maybe was on purpose because of the situation at the time, but I got the feeling it wasn't. there were a few tense scenes that were well done, but all in all I don't think i'd recommend this one.
Some good ideas but not great folks.
the concept results in some intense and creepy moments. it does feel like they could've done more with the premise and a few of the characters simply acted odd and unrealistic. however, compared to your average horror flick, there was enough substance to recommend.
I am really, really glad I grew up in an era where this movie would have been considered horrible. My favorite part was the 1989 morphing technology straight out of Michael Jackson's ‘Black or White' music video. Plot was ridiculously slow and ineffective, no real tension or scares, the alien thing looked like a costume left over from Land of the Lost. How was it that half hour Twilight Zone episodes were consistently thoughtful and scary back in 1965 and 55 years later, Hollywood studios can't put together a halfway decent horror movie?
It kept me guessing (I love that) Word to the wise: Once Evan is alone with the group, keep a close eye on everyone. You'll see why I said this later in the film.
A movie that surprises you. Isaac Jay is the standout but the whole cast is great. A strong debut from Elle Callahan.
I liked this. New kind of demon. Didn't rely too much on the usual scare inducing tricks. Good for a night of viewing.
There was nothing great here: mediocre acting, predictable jump scares, familiar plot, bad cg creature.
The film is entertaining. I watched late at night while waiting for my son to stop trying to sneak out of the bed. I expected a B rate forgettable film, but I like Evan the protogonist. I feel for him. I did have to rewind twice because the film doesn't explore the secondary characters much, so I had three people there that I knew only as ' talks too much' and 'hope he dies first'
Its seriously movies like this that make me not trust Rotten Tomatoes' or critic reviews. I want 2 hours of my life back. The slowest moving movie ive ever seen, low budget with almost no on-screen deaths or special effects, and a very anti climactic ending. 1 hour in and everyone was still alive so idk why they called this head count
Not bad, but not great, and I did get a bit bored watching. With ritualistic curses like the one this film is based on, if you go into the backstory a little more, put some solid drive and instinct to survive in the characters, and build the suspense well enough, it can make for a solid film, e.g. 'The Ritual' (2017). 'Head Count' lacked an interesting premise, likeable/interesting characters, and the ability to build and sustain suspense once it was created. It's not a bad film, it's just very shallow and there's no aspect that is particularly compelling.
