Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It’s all too much. The horrors are piled on in such quantities that any possibility of being scared or even slightly repulsed soon evaporates. Rated: 2/5 Oct 11, 2024 Full Review William Bibbiani TheWrap Taylor envisions a Hellboy where the horror matters more than the humor or poetry or romance or even the good vibes, and he’s made a film that proves his take is valid. Oct 10, 2024 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Variety It has the look of YouTube fan film — not to mention the excess fidelity. Oct 9, 2024 Full Review Grant Hermanns Screen Rant Brian Taylor's Hellboy: The Crooked Man certainly strives to feel different from the previous movies, but comes with the cost of also feeling dry. Rated: 4/10 Mar 20, 2025 Full Review Adrian Ruiz But Why Tho? A Geek Community Hellboy: The Crooked Man makes a valiant effort to adapt Mike Mignola’s 2008 comic, but ultimately, it falters under the weight of its changes. Rated: 5/10 Mar 8, 2025 Full Review Whang Yee Ling The Straits Times (Singapore) Not every superhero adventure has to be a mega-dollar bloat. Here is a B-movie true to the spirit of its source material. Rated: 3/5 Dec 13, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Angela G It's like they decided to make a film like Robert Eggers, but make it about some comic book bullshit. All style and bugger all substance. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Lúcio Leonardo P Entertainment that takes our “anti-hero” from hell to a “B-side” production, not being an adventure to save the world, but just a village (from itself). It has many flaws and few successes, but these satisfied me. A narrative that is closer to comic books, having horror as its base, leaving the protagonist more vulnerable, both in the fights and in the emotions, to the point where we don’t know how the fight between Hellboy and the Crooked Man will end… Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/25/25 Full Review Leo R As someone who’s seen every Hellboy film in theaters, this latest entry was a major letdown. The 2019 reboot got flak for being too dark and missing Ron Perlman, but at least it had strong visuals and a clear tone—it didn’t deserve as much hate as it got. This version has none of the charm, story, or visual quality. I’ve seen fan films on YouTube do a better job on a fraction of the budget. The cast gave it their best and made the film watchable, but the weak script and poor execution dragged everything down. If you want to see Hellboy done right, stick to the originals. This one’s not worth your time. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/21/25 Full Review George C Felt let down by the way it was presented, lots of special effects but the story and how Hellboy was put over didn't keep me on my seat. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Elric B Tactile, Atmospheric and Creepy. This will appeal to horror, film noir and old style cinema fans. The SFX fit the scenes organically. It's not action packed like the other Hollywood versions. I'm guessing the fans of the other Hellboy films will not enjoy it as much. It's a great film to watch in the dark or by candlelight. The pace can seem slow. Lots of interaction between the characters. Well story boarded, great camera angles, dream states and scene changes keep it moving well. You are instantly dropped into the director's lense and kept in that atmosphere. The contrast is sharp; you can imagine what each object feels like. Along with the great folly, it's like you're there. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/25 Full Review Mike K At some point during the filming a producer should have shut this movie down and taken the loss. No belief in the "new" much smaller and ineffectual Hellboy, and the rest is an awful drive in movie horror show no one wants to watch. Big fan of Big Red, but not this one.
