Highlander Reviews
I was very young when this movie came out. It is still one of my favorites as of 2025. It aged a bit over the decades, but now 80s overblown movies are back in style. It is super entertaining. Clancy Brown is legend as Kurgan! The Queen soundtrack is killer! Thank you for making just an excellent film! Totally badass!
Growing up there were many movies of action and adventure and dragons and sorcery and this movie took the fantasy genre for me as a child and expanded it into the future of possibilities.
Its THE fantasy movie. No movie has ever done sword and sorcery in a modern day setting like Highlander. Not even close. I'm going to go ahead and call a spade a spade: this is the greatest action movie of all-time. Queen's score, Clancy Brown, Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart, Beatie Edney...Russell Mulcahy's revolutionary, music video-style directing; this is as good as movies get. This is to movies what Iron Maiden is to metal.
Had it's good moments, had its bad ones, but overall a great film! Parts felt quite rushed, especially the barely existent relationship with Brenda (poor Heather), but equally a lot of brilliant moments. Defo worth a watch at least once in your life!
Certainly better than anything else that’s came out in the past decade.
An extraordinary cult classic movie that will endure for so many many generations. Not only with the cinema fans but also Queen fans
Watch the original cut. The Director's cut is much worse, with scenes that were cut for very good reasons.
I've always been a fan of this movie. Introduced some lateral thinking while been highly entertaining and at the time, a little left field. Gotta love that!
Just saw it, last time was probably ten years ago, first time for my son. It's still captures my attention and Clancy Browns performance is great. Is 38 years since it was released and it's still holds it's ground.
There can be only one, this movie aged like fine wine hope they reboot with Henry carvil
A truly unique experience, Highlander is first and foremost sabotaged by Lambert's awkward screen presence and absurd stylistic choices. A much too ambitious and confused script in the hands of somebody without directorial judgment doesn't help. The good moments make you wish that the rest came even close, but it would take some kind of magic to remedy this mess.
A brilliant story and fantastic acting, undercut by mostly poor production and direction choices. Having said that, beautifully shot final battle scene. Definitely worth a watch but a great example of a story worth a reboot.
Can’t recommend this one the camera work does your head in poor acting at points and trying to convince you main lead is Scottish when. You can tell he ain’t Scottish and Sean Connery as some Spanish guy called Ramirez with a Scottish accent is laughable
Watched it a few times and it's a great movie, I would recommend it if you love Sci-Fi Action Movies.
An excellent epic fantasy film with a great soundtrack by Queen and plenty of action. Not boring in anyway. One of the best films ever made with a nice Scottish Theme.
Highlander is definitely a film I certainly got a few laughs out off as it decapitates a lot of entertainment as Clancy Brown was just phenomenal for a mad man.
One of the greatest sci fi action movies of all time even the out dated effects work here and awesome story excellent plot .
A fatastic film. Story, acting, score, an action. It has it all. Clancy Brown plays a fantastic villain one of the best performances to date. Highlander is a true classic.
Despite it's low budget flaws, Highlander is a masterpiece of storytelling. It allows for a fantasy world existing within the confines of real life by keeping the mythology hidden from sight, except for the viewer. The Queen score is epic, and Clancy Brown as the Kurgan is terrifying. Yet the film also deftly weaves in comic-relief, and the death of a main character is a real tear-jerker moment. It asks and answers the question of what is the meaning of life.
"Highlander" is a timeless gem that masterfully blends fantasy, action, and historical drama into a captivating narrative that stands the test of time. Once viewed as a cult classic now simply just a Masterpiece. Incredible writing and directing enhances the unique story, compelling characters, and unforgettable soundtrack. Christopher Lambert's Connor MacLeod is nothing short of iconic. His ability to convey the weight of centuries lived, combined with moments of vulnerability and determination, makes MacLeod a hero worth rooting for. Combine this with quite possibly the greatest soundtrack every assembled and you end up with a must have for anyone's video library.
