Viewers looking for more than a few secondhand thrills should drive right past The Hitcher.

Too silly and stupid to be scary, The Hitcher speeds along with no regard for logic.

It is all setup and superficial story with very little depth. Still, it was fun.

Overall we get a pretty decent flick that first timers should enjoy and fans of the original shouldn't outright hate.

Aside from a few changes, The Hitcher '07 is pretty much the same film as the original, just not done as well.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Apr 27, 2020
Alas, there's nothing memorable here with the decent bits all cribbed and the hunter-prey dynamic diluted by having three principal players.

The original film was nicely atmospheric and gritty, whereas this version is aimed at the teen audience and lacks the tension, relying on car crashes rather than chills.

The Hitcher is superior to Paradise Lost and more frightening, though no great shakes.

This remake of the 1986 thriller starring Rutger Hauer and C. Thomas Howell isn't just pointless, it's preposterous, silly and dull.

Despite its Playboy Playmate heroine and corny-as-hell climax, The Hitcher is still more engrossing than most of the other horror redos unleashed on the youth market of late. I'm talkin' to you, Grudge 2.

Director Dave Meyers truly eliminates most of the psychological aspect of the original 1986 Hitcher in exchange for a polished contemporary feel.

The recent assembly-line remaking of recognizable horror titles continues with The Hitcher, a dreary updating of the 1986 Rutger Hauer thriller.

The new version is an adequate technical exercise ... but the attempts at 'originality' undermine whatever meager integrity the original possessed.

[It's] cheerfully in touch with its own brainlessness.

For my taste, it was better off left dead, roadkill on the cinematic highway.

While this new Hitcher has its moments, it just doesn't make for as scary or interesting a ride as its predecessor.
