Hold Your Breath Reviews
Paulson and the girls are amazing in this. I see a lot of critiques saying it was “simple” but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I was on the edge of my seat, I think it’s especially going to hit you if you have sisters. I think it is a similar theme to hereditary just less gory which maybe makes some people believe it to be simple. But all in all it was a beautiful story about grief and love, had me biting my nails and almost brought me to tears I had to hold back!
Hold Your Breath's setting and art direction are phenomenal. Coupled with great acting, espeically by Sarah Paulson, it's a true shame this horror movie isn't scary or even unsettling.
Let’s start with the setting… so on point for a psychological horror. The Dust Bowl. Where people would be cooped up for weeks on end, with little to no stimulation for you brain, to the point of losing your mind. The acting was a masterclass, as I believe other actors should study and try to emulate what these actors portrayed. The writing was unpredictable with many twists and intensity that anyone would appreciate if they enjoy physiological horrors. I’d rate it 88/100 as I think that’s where the audience score should be at.
The setting of this story was monumental. The dust bowl setting feels like a horror story within itself. The strong emotional story this portrays was one you don’t see portrayed this profoundly . If you have a liking for movies with some truth to the story and a twist into more horror , this is for you. This movie brought me so much empathy to the people who went through this devastating time.
Masquerading as a supernatural horror, the tension and suspense are good as it’s mask is slowly removed. Better than expected.
It was better than I expected. Sarah Paulson and the girls were great. Despite the reviews I was interested most of the time. But overall it is not a memorable movie.
The upcoming 2024 thriller "Hold Your Breath," featuring Sarah Paulson, presents a nostalgic cinematic experience with an unsettling and perplexing narrative. This film falls into that category of being passable; it exists in its own right but struggles to hold the viewer's attention. The dialogue is extensive, leading to moments where the pacing feels sluggish, making it challenging to stay engaged. However, there are flashes of creativity that allow Paulson to step out of her comfort zone, showcasing her ability to embody a different persona. Yet, much of her character seems reminiscent of her previous roles in the horror and thriller genres. After watching it, I found the film rather uneventful. "OK" is the term that best encapsulates my overall impression. It's certainly not a memorable experience; I doubt I’ll recall watching it in a year or two, as it lacks the staying power that would warrant a rewatch. This seems to be a common issue with many contemporary films—they simply don’t invite a second viewing.
5 stars 🤩 for the acting skills and cinematography 📽️ now it's not a snooze fest it's actually a good watch... But if your one who likes to put a movie on to sleep to its lovely good sounds, pleasant voice's.
Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time !
Not sure why all the bad reviews. I really enjoyed this one. Give it a try!
Sarah Paulson delivers another tremendous performance but for an psychological horror movie it’s not very interesting
I don’t get the naysayers. The dust bowl sucked for anyone living through it and this movie depicted that pretty well. There was death, starvation and extreme anxiety/stress. That can mess with anybody’s head and this was before antidepressants were invented. I considered this movie a psychological horror story showing someone’s descent into madness. Definitely worth a watch.
I don’t understand the low scores on this one, I thought it was excellent! Sarah Paulson delivers as usual. It paints a good picture of what it might have been living in that era and through those hardships, and how it could take a toll on your psyche. The mind is a fragile thing. 5 stars.
I honestly just watched it because Sarah Paulson was in it, and as usual, she delivered! Definitely worth a watch.
Just because the time and setting was brown and bland doesn't mean the story has to be also, discards a decent villain setup for overused and under baked tropes.
It seems that many of the reviews are dinging this film due to a lack of "scares". As a psychological thriller, I was riveted. The acting was top notch and the cinematography was an equal partner in this film. I didn't pick up my phone once.
This was so freaking boring 😴
Psychologically observed much prior to ensure the obvious with distressful results and zero advantageous usage for a meaninglessly flat tale, albeit Paulson’s channeled masquerade and Miller’s emotional display. (C+)
Good movie. Not the type to watch over a sleepover with friends or family. More 'one more movie before I go to bed' type. Sarah Paulson was great in it and the rest of the cast did well too. The pacing could possibly have been better or maybe better scare to narrative ratio but I think to conclusion makes up for that!
