I'm not afraid of admitting that this movie brought some tears. It's an emotional watch, the connection between Sam and his daughter Lucy is just too beautiful not to feel bad for the whole situation they find themselves in. I wish more parents would show their kids love on that level. On the other hand, I think a shared custody would've been the best solution for Lucy. She's in her early childhood, the amount of mental and emotional development in this stage of life is quite significant. She could greatly benefit from having a custodian who can make sure she's doing well in school, let her explore her interests and encourage her to socialize and make the best out of her childhood.

spicoli as a whiney brain damaged dad is enough to make you read books. you shouldn't watch movies like this. build yourself a backyard sauna instead.

I have never written a review for a movie before, however, this movie deserves so much credit. I love this movie so much, I see a common theme with rotten tomatoes giving wholesome movies terrible ratings. This movie proves it. Rotten tomatoes was wrong to give this movie such a low rating.

Soulless and thoughtless, 'I Am Sam' is made with too much purpose. It's trying to say something that's already been said before. Sean Penn's performance goes from slightly endearing to grating, which isn't helped by the extensive runtime that fails to justify its existence. Shoddy camerawork never works out unless under an explicit excuse, which this film doesn't seem to want to bring up. It's just a technique without meaning.

Whenever I see an audience rating over 80% with 250k reviews and the critics are below 40%, I know it will be a movie I will like. And this one, just like clock work, didn't disappoint. The "critics" need to get off of their high horse and take a good look in the mirror.

Heart warming film with great acting. Cinematography is very artistic but overall very watchable.

One of the best picture ever done in movie history. Once again rotten tomatoes shows how incompetent they are at ratings movies.

It's a shame Dakota Fanning did not get nominated for an Oscar as best actress.

Loved this movie! It may me cry multiple times throughout the film, especially the court room scenes. Very heartfelt and I loved the chemistry between the characters!

What an amazing movie. It really pulls on the heartstring, to see that love transcends all gender, intelligence and ethnicity. At the end of the day, the unconditional love of a simple parent may sometimes outweigh the false affection shown by wealthy/influential parents. It's truly an inspiring and touching movie to watch.

The soundtrack itself was a masterpiece. Plus amazing performance from strong casts which includes a young Dakota Fanning. One of my favorite drama of all time

This is a sad, poignant and thought provoking watch. Seann Penn gives a great performance as the titular character. I imagine a film such as this will have brought a lot of controversy at the time it came out, due to the actor not having a related mental/emotional disability as portrayed in the film but I did feel the sensitive subject areas covered were treated with respect. I thought this was quite a memorable film, although it is a bit hard to watch at times, again due to the films themes. It also features a nice soundtrack, with most of the songs performed having been written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney and are sung by Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow etc. This film is well worth a watch for the depiction of how vulnerable people are treated in modern American society and highlights compassion at times (which isn't to say everything goes perfectly, certainly not), if nothing else, so I would definitely recommend it, even though having some tissues to hand may be an idea if your prone to crying when watching emotional films!.
