Joshua Polanski In Review Online Despite such concerted efforts...these concessions to pluralistic imaginings of Amsterdam do not distract from the fundamental Islamophobic anxiety that drives [the film], and the deluge of other copaganda gracing screens big and small in our present age. May 3, 2025 Full Review JK Sooja Common Sense Media Strong performances can't save this boring movie. Apr 30, 2025 Full Review Erick Estrada Cinegarage In the little depth that the film has, despite being little, the film itself chokes.[Full review in Spanish] Apr 25, 2025 Full Review Juan Pablo Russo EscribiendoCine iHostage not only dares to recreate a recent real event, but it does so without euphemisms. Films about urban terrorism usually look for external culprits, ideological causes, and obvious enemies. None of that is present here. Rated: 7.5/10 Apr 21, 2025 Full Review John Serba Decider Don’t judge it by its lame title – iHostage is a rock-solid thriller made all the more stronger by its dramatic plausibility. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Abdellah K Worst movie of all time so much boring so much ridiculous this movie has no sense scénario -0 action -0 suspense -0 story -0 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Marco L (CASTELLANO) Hay películas que, aunque estén bien hechas, no consiguen dejar huella. iRehén es una de ellas. (ENGLISH) Some films, even when technically solid, just don’t leave a mark. iHostage is one of them. Based on a real case, it has moments of tension and does what it’s supposed to, but it fails to deliver on an emotional level. The direction is competent, the pacing holds up, and the atmosphere builds suspense fairly well. The issue is: there’s no emotional weight. The characters aren't well developed, you don’t connect with them, and as a result, you don’t really care what happens. Even though it tries to keep us on edge, you never truly worry about anyone. And if you don’t care what happens to the characters, it’s hard to feel invested in the story. The harsh reality behind the real events could’ve been used for something far more powerful, but here it just becomes a sequence of tense scenes that don’t quite land. It’s not a bad movie—watchable, and some might enjoy it more than I did. But that buzz about it being “unmissable” is clearly overhyped. iHostage doesn’t offend, but it certainly doesn’t move you either. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/12/25 Full Review Rein u A brave attempt to turn this recent dramatic real event into a film. A difficult task, especially since there is not much action, while it is at the same time a matter of life and death for all involved. The perspectives of the hostage, the hostage taker and the intervention team are nicely balanced in the picture. A downside is the unrealistic macho behavior at times by e.g. the female negotiator. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/08/25 Full Review Lucas G This is the most boring movie I've ever watched. Movies should be entertaining even when based on a true story. This movie had no plot or purpose. I wish I hadn't wasted my time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/06/25 Full Review Eye C A good thriller, sober, without the circus from Hollywood and that’s refreshing from time to time. I am not sure how Apple is taking this movie… Hate it… love it… or neither. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Read all reviews
