In the Heights Reviews
This hit home a bit. Loved it.
This has been my favorite movie for the past 3 years. I love how well they transferred the musical into a movie. The songs are immaculate and so much fun to dance and sing to. The actors and actresses they picked to play the characters are so great! They really fit their roles and made the characters feel so real. Btw Lin Manuel Miranda as the man selling snow cone was much fun, and added some of his charm from the original movie.
A really fun modern-day musical. It鈥檚 corny and sloppy at times (including some mild whitewashing of the Afro-Latino aspect of Washington Heights), but this is more than made up for by the charismatic cast and incredibly catchy musical numbers.
My favourite musical, the songs are so neatly and sentimentally crafted for what scene and emotion they represent. However, it鈥檚 not just the songs that are made with such precision as the storyline is just right too. It鈥檚 not an unrealistic circumstance the characters fine themselves in, but still has that movie-like excitement to it, therefore representing real life people and their situations, but adding a musical/movie twist to it. You do just fall In love with the characters, the music, the dance and more importantly the setting. Truly another Lin Manuel Miranda masterpiece!
Really enjoy the music in this movie. It was interesting learning about the Dominican Republic too. Lin Manuel Miranda is very talented. I liked the 鈥$96,000鈥 song
It's amazing, really a good movie musical surrounded by many tragic ones... Few of the shots are not the best, and sometimes too long though.
Best moive everrrr love it so much
It can't be considered a musical, it's colourful, happy film, nice dancing but that's it. Personally it's rated too high and I repeat it can be considered a musical just because the conversation into a song doesn't make it a musical.
This film, which is based on the renowned musical of the same name, follows Usnavi as he tells the story of how he and his fellow Washington Heights residents pursued their goals of a better life despite constant conflict and oppression. Overall, due to the catchy and meaningful songs, extravagant dance sequences, talented cast, and beautiful cinematography, this movie is an excellent adapation and one of the best musicals of the 21st century, which I thoroughly enjoyed and thought was perfect in every way, that leaves you with a happy but inexplicable feeling when it ends.
The singing and the story
A beautiful musical about community that will have you singing and dancing.
Oh my Gosh,I love this movie so much, such a beautiful adaptation of the beloved Broadway show and loved to see Christopher Jackson and Lin-Manuel Miranda have cameos in this version! I loved Lin SO much as Usnavi but I think Anthony Ramos did a great job too!The emotion and love in this whole thing is really moving and inspirational (like Hamilton)A MUST SEE
I am second to none in my appreciation of the number of musicals that are being transferred from stage to screen, particularly considering that I don't live in an area with lots of choices for live theater. Although a box office disappointment, critics waxed rhapsodic over this adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning predecessor to HAMILTON, so my anticipation was high. Sadly, this is one of those occasions where I can totally understand the praise bestowed, but it's just not my cup of tea. Miranda is obviously considered the current genius of musical theater, but with all due respect, I'm not a fan of his type of music. I'm in awe of someone who can write the way he does, but it's not aesthetically pleasing for me. And in a movie filled to the brim with music, that's a problem. I can't find much fault elsewhere. The cast is enthusiastic and energetic, most of the production numbers are well choreographed and produced and there's undoubtedly a lot here to like. But because of my distance from the music, I found it difficult to care much about what was happening within the movie. Perhaps it's a lazy comparison, but the best way I can think of to explain my opinion is sushi. Some people love sushi and could eat it daily. Others can appreciate the art and technique of what goes into making sushi, but it's not something they find appetizing. I love sushi - unfortunately I don't love IN THE HEIGHTS.
This movie is massively overrated. Very dull and easily forgettable plot. Non-sympathetic love story. Very primitive and unpoetic lyrics in the songs. I do not get the fuss and excitement unless it's all about a PC token.
Prepare for singing and dancing in the streets of Washington Heights! As a young puerto rican man attempts to follow his dreams, he soon starts to question if he truly wishes to leave behind his friends and families on the block. Shot in vivid spectacle and impressive choreography, this diverse cast of dancers manage to move their way into our hearts and our minds!
Some of the new material is inserted into the existing narrative in some very clunky ways, however at its best the movie is just as vibrant and emotional as the original stage production.
I like musicals as much as the next guy but the songs are way too long 馃憥馃徎 just ruins any chance of the movie being good.
Al menos la version en latino sobre una pelicula de latinos es espantosa!
Love this movie! Jon M. Chu brings this charming, vibrant musical to the big screen with an excellent ensemble. It's a musical about community, love, family and dreams. A must-see!
