Interview With the Vampire Reviews
The 'interview' gimmick here is pretty lame and Pitt and Cruise give committed performances. But they are wholly outshined by an 11 year old Kirsten Dunst.
They can remake this all they want. Or continue with making other adaptations of Anne Rice's other books. But they will NEVER touch this movie. It is a perfect orchestration. There is no part of it that I can complain about. Tom Cruise IS Lestat. No one can out-do him on this character. Not even come close.
A strange one for me to rate because I think the first 40 minutes is perfect, and is a must watch for me during spooky season. But I lose interest in the story as it progresses. There's a magic to the historical age of the 1700s-1800s, a gothic and seedy atmosphere that plays so nicely to the story, and characters. But as time progresses within the movie, it gradually becomes more uninteresting. Except for the stuff with Christian Slater who interviews the vampire during modern day, it plays nicely into the campfire storytelling aspect of the movie. Seeing Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, two legendary actors, in a horror movie, is a very cool thing. Both of them are excellent in this. This movie is an excellent watch for gothic horror fans despite having a middle part that isn't as intriguing as the first or final parts of the movie.
Interview with the Vampire is modern gothic cinema at its finest. Is it perfect? No. The plot stumbles along in places and shifts more like a two-act play and less like a movie, introducing the B-plot much farther along than it should. However, the journey down memory lane for a lone vampire proves to be a memorable one, as we venture from vampiric birth to the trials and tribulations of young manhood in a wayward existence. Tom Cruise eats the scenery as Lestat, the creator, and Kirsten Dunst is a prodigious performer as Lestat’s young vampiric creation. Brad Pitt is oddly on autopilot and doesn’t find as many layers in his performance as his co-stars do, but he suffices in the leading role. There are so many layers to the story that it works as a parable for homosexuality, blended families, adopted children, single fathers, and so much more. Although Anne Rice’s screenplay doesn’t quite do her own novel justice, it is elevated by the stellar ‘90s direction and a punchy, open-ended ending. Interview with the Vampire is simply essential viewing from 1994.
Interesting and somewhat authentic. enjoyable and interesting with fun ending.
Surpreendente, ousado, perspicaz.
Drink from me and live forever. Interview with the Vampire is a 1994 American gothic horror film directed by Neil Jordan 🧛 Not bad, but not my favourite either 😉 It’s ok, but I feel mixed about this one 😉 I’d recommend it if you like this genre, but if not then probably give it a miss 👍🏼👎🏼 A vampire relates his epic life story of love, betrayal, loneliness, and dark hunger to an over-curious reporter.
It's a bit soap-opera, but it's a rich world that's created here, with some expert performances all around. It's nice seeing Cruise chew up the scenes as a villain. It's too bad this couldn't continue as a series.
Who washes the soap? How do we annihilate the influence of shitty critics employed by this farce once called rotten tomatoes? It’s dead now; you’ll have to use your own brain to come to a conclusion Rotten Tomatoes was never great, but today in 2024 worse than ever
Beautiful movie about vampires. Probably Tom Cruise's best performance.💜 who doesn't love Brad Pitt . Kirsten dunst steals the show. Antonio Banderas looks great in a long wig
The ultimate vampire movie. Top 10 movie of all time.
Film is quite random. Quite well done with great costumes and effects, feels like a play at times. The story didn't grab me enough. Which is probably why I don't remember any of it from watching it many years before.
I was disappointed upon rewatching this film years later. I remembered this film having more scares and an engaging story however I felt it was really slow upon reflection. Overall: Acting is solid as you would expect from Hollywood finest but it's missing that killer instinct for me and left me feeling drained unfortunately.
Overall, it remains a strong and timeless adaptation due to Jordan's dreamy, dark, and gothic direction.
Muy interesante, una adaptación medianamente decente del libro aun con sus diferencias como el personaje de Armand, que personalmente es de las pocas cosas que la película mejora a la novela.
The cast was fantastic - Kirsten Dunst especially. Such a cool concept for a movie.
Incredible cast performing beautifully written and developed characters. The movie's settings and ideas are clearly presented with fantastic pacing that will have you glued to your seat the entire time. It is truly a treat to see Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, and Brad Pitt with long hair and gothic outfits. Simply fantastic.
