Journey to Bethlehem Reviews
Not religious but I love Milo
I think the criticism this film has received is generally unwarranted and unfair. It is very uplifting and the music is brilliant. My advice is don't listen to the nay sayers and decide for yourself.
A better film than Sony's previous take on the Nativity Story, The Star, seeing how "the birth of Jesus but a musical" is a much easier-to-swallow concept than "the birth of Jesus from the animals' perspective". Admittedly, when you set aside the musical gimmick, this film is, all things considered, a pretty standard take on the Nativity story with some silly humour to keep children amused and Antonio Banderas' casting as Herod the Great only being for the sake of having a big name in the cast. He honestly felt to me like he was going through the motions here. The rest of the acting is fine, the songs are decent and I do see at least some passion in making this film work as a musical; the cast certainly are giving it their all during the musical numbers with Herod's son's song about his inner conflict arguably being the best one in my opinion. I just don't have any strong opinions about this film whatsoever and while I got through it fine, it didn't have any remarkable staying power. Felt like the kind-of film I'd find on Disney Channel if that studio wasn't so afraid of dealing with religious sensibilities so much that they ended up downplaying that angle in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Some of the lighter songs did have a High School Musical-vibe to then. TL;DR A decent Christmas watch but hardly a masterpiece of Biblical cinema.
The best Christian movie I have ever seen and it motivates me to read my Bible more and I loved the appearance of Antonio Banderas and Joel smallbone and the best musical I have seen
Great acting, magical and high emotions with musical that enters deep in your soul to understand how beautiful was that moment of arriving in this world the King Jesus, son of God.And we understand more Maria and Joseph, their emotions and fear with the mission of first protectors of son of God.Amaizing.🙏🙏🙏
great musical for the holidays
When Banderas surfaces, the movie becomes passable and worthwhile. Aside from his contributions this musical version of the 2000s' 'Nativity Story' lacks style and possible substance even with the source material's loftiness rife with artistic and philosophical opportunities. Plus, the songwriting is more reminiscent of Taylor Swift than Andrew Lloyd Weber.
Believable storyline with an amazing soundtrack!
Great music. Melodic and memorable with “We Can Be We” my cup of tea. I hope it gets more love from musical fans! Mary and Joseph casting couldn’t be more perfect! Even if you have internal conflict with religion, embrace this for the music and genre, as well as the actors. I’ve told people about this and many are like “oh the Mary and Joseph story”. Surprised by the lukewarm reaction from who I considered open-minded people. Yes it is faith-based and we should all embrace it. The heart of faith-based is to bring peace and hope, and this is what this film does for me. Beautiful art is beautiful and I hope people recognize Journey to Bethlehem as a great contribution to the musical genre.
I enjoyed it. And yet was a little disturbed it was a musical for some reason. Generally I like musicals. So not sure why this bothered me.
hell yeah i liked it a lot
very good musical!!! I like the musical about Jesus. I think the plot needed more but overall was pretty good.
This is a very good movie to watch. The cast & the songs are was a big plus.
AMAZING in every way. Shivers down my spine! It's such a true masterpiece. Definetly a must watch! The actors did such an amazing job within portraying the characters.
Antonio Banderas performance is extraordinary.
My son loved it. Fig was fun to watch but the scene with Gabriel when Jesus is born was our favorite part. Hair raising moment! The songs are catchy so good work Carlos Santana. We are adding this one to our list of Christmas day movies.
So good! I was so impressed by the songs and voices! Some of these songs could have been found in a Disney movie; they’re that good! I hope to watch this every Christmas!
Bordering on a musical, but very accurate in most places with the Bible & historical legends about the Magi. Only the end about Herod's son allowing them to escape is not correct. According to the Bible they leave Bethlehem because Joseph was warned in a dream & when Herod died & this same son was so cruel they returned from Egypt to live in Nazareth to avoid this same son. For the most part, an accurate depiction of what COULD have happened.
Amazing and fun new take on the story. The songs were great. My 6 year old daughter loved the movie and songs too! Great actor selection. This is what I imagined Mary and Joseph to look like.
