Killer Heat Reviews
Sluggish noir thriller.
| Original Score: C | Nov 19, 2024
...familiar subject matter that’s employed to watchable yet entirely forgettable effect...
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Oct 23, 2024
t may be one of the great comedies of the year. The only problem is that the people who made it thought they were making a gritty noir.

A cliched script and disappointing performances from a promising cast add Killer Heat to a long line of dissatisfying adaptations of the bestselling crime writer's work.

Almost every character is a cliché, twice so during flashbacks to the private eye's predictably troubled personal life, and none of them have much hope of acquitting themselves well when tasked with delivering constantly dreary dialogue.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 4, 2024
Adapted from a short story by Jo Nesbo, this sun-drenched Mediterranean noir pushes hard-boiled menace and private eye diffidence to a tiring degree, but it lacks for a decent plot and even a hint of intrigue.

Gordon-Levitt and Woodley feel miscast in a noir-ish wannabe whose plot is too uncomplicated and obvious to not distract us with more lived-in characters who have done more than a single bad choice.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Oct 3, 2024
What this old-fashioned noir lacks most is old-fashioned tension .... Still, the film holds our interest throughout its fleet-footed 90 minutes, and you could do a lot worse than hanging out in the Greek Isles with JGL.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Oct 1, 2024
The director, Philippe Lacôte, does an okay job of unfurling the story, yet somehow it all lacks… heat. Maybe that’s because he wants the dots he’s connecting to be sentimental.

Killer Heat has an interesting premise and a cast that could have given much more, but the movie fails to captivate or generate the necessary tension to keep the audience hooked. [Full review in Spanish]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt dons a Panama hat and swills booze as a classic gumshoe investigating a murder mystery in sun-soaked Greece. Killer Heat is chock-full of what you'd expect from an old-school detective story.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Sep 30, 2024
Killer Heat delivers a compelling crime drama that cleverly subverts tropes and follows an exceptional and twisty murder mystery.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Sep 28, 2024
The whole endeavor is uneventful, toothless, and more filler than killer. Heat is the last thing it has
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 27, 2024
[Killer Heat is] firmly on the “utterly generic” side of the spectrum, so much so that its very premise, once described, basically gives away the entire mystery, leaving the details of mood, performance, and direction to carry the picture. They don’t.

Between the thin characters, mediocre suspense, and uninspired twists, there’s not much incentive for emotional investment in the outcome.

Some genre exercises have challenged the misogyny at the core of neo noir in more thoroughgoing ways. That’s the case for Philippe Lacôte’s thoughtful and surprisingly empathetic Killer Heat,

Killer Heat is a mystery that is not mysterious and too familiar to distinguish itself from everything else out there.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Sep 27, 2024
This undercooked thriller, an adaptation of a short story by popular Norwegian crime author Jo Nesbø, is too painfully slow, dull, and devoid of said heat.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Sep 27, 2024
Killer Heat will not go down as the worst Nesbø adaptation out there but it will definitely be the most forgettable.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 26, 2024
The twists and pedestrian dramatics are a stiff slog to get to, and Gordon-Levitt’s once innate charisma has vanished altogether here; his cheap P.I. outfit itself seems to be wearing him more than the other way around.
