Korengal Reviews
Kaikki oleellinen kerrottiin jo Restrepossa, mutta kyllä tämä silti tykitti kovaa. Ja jätkät on kameran edessä rehellisiä: mikä on parasta täällä: "No tulitaistelut. Mistään ei saa samanlaisia kiksejä."
Strangely unengaging documentary. Korengal follows the lives of a company of US Army soldiers stationed at an outpost in Afghanistan in 2007-8. It is the sequel to Restrepo, which was nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar in 2011. Maybe it is because I haven't seen Restrepo (yet), but this documentary just doesn't work for me. It doesn't do much wrong - there is a good mix of interviews and live action footage and there is a degree of conclusiveness to it all. Yet I wasn't engaged. The whole thing just seemed to plod along and I didn't feel any real affinity towards the soldiers. There is also a large degree of gung-ho-ness and bravado, which is a bit off-putting. The movie doesn't feel balanced enough. Maybe that's the problem.
No nonsense, thought-provoking documentary about modern life on the front lines. What's most interesting in the majority view that they miss the combat life and would happily go back because of their bonds
Good movie but it seemed like it was Restrepo 1.5. The interviews were extended (some repeated) and were edited to create another movie. Solid but not as good as Restrepo.
While a bit longer than it needs to be, Korengal offers a fascinating and important perspective on modern soldiers.
This is a follow up to the original Restrepo, taking us even deeper into the lives of the men who served in this unit. Having seen the first, we know the setting, allowing the film makers to take us deeper into the psychology of these men. Not necessarily an "enjoyable" documentary but rather one that holds a lot of importance and profound impact to its viewers.
Not as good as Restrepo or Armadillo, but still interesting. It often felt too much like it was extra footage from Restrepo put together to make another film, as it was.
Restrepo was a 5 star movie for me. Korengal feels like DVD extras from that. Restrepo was a more focused documentary and highly recommended. This is for those who want some bonus material.
Part two of the Restrepo documentary still packs a punch despite consisting of nothing but Restrepo outtakes.
ne of the best films about the War in Afghanistan was documenty 'Restrepo'. This follow up film lacks the immediacy of the original, but is still powerful in how it depicts the war as long periods of bordem punctuated by sudden moments of violence
Although it was interesting, it didn't encompass the same emotional tone that Restrepo is renowned for. It felt less like a documentary and more of a army recruting video, but nevertheless it was a decent documentary.
This is a good addition to Restrepo. Thats basically all it is. Just finishes up the story of these guys. Pretty good film but I thought it wasn't as good as Restrepo.
