Laggies Reviews

Oct 24, 2024

Megan is right on the mark when she says that you cant base your existence on an imaginary future, you have to suck it up and go with your gut almost everyone has been stuck in a rut at some point in their lives they don't want things to move forward or change so much that they've lost sight of things Keira Knightly and Chloe Moretz are an awesome pair bouncing their lives off of each other; they got their own obstacles blocking their roads to life Sam Rockwell does very well as the father of Moretz, too his job is to break people apart while Megan herself tries not to director Lynn Shelton does a good job addressing growing up and making grown-up decisions, no one stays a kid forever A decade later and this is a cute harmless indie flick

I didn’t enjoy having to turn a blind eye to the protagonist’s intrusion into the privacy of adolescence, even though she did ultimately grow into a semi-responsible aunty figure. But I did want to see what Knightly and Rockwell could do together, and their performances were super engaging. Yes, the ethics were flawed and kept me at arm’s length throughout, but if you’re a Rockwell fan you might enjoy watching him once again turn lead into gold.

This premise should not work but between the cast and a fun script it does.

Laggies is an okay film. It is about Megan who panics when her boyfriend proposes. Keira Knightley and Chloe Grace Moretz give decent performances. The script is a little slow in places. Lynn Shelton did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the humor and drama.

I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. the story is a bit odd but I found it very entertaining.

Roteiro: Fraco Vale apena assistir? Se você não tiver nada para fazer. Nota: 4,5

This was a good movie. The writing sometimes was weak, but the great acting and amazing actors really held it together and made this interesting. This is a story about a late 30-something woman who still is supported by her parents and even with an advanced degree cannot get a career going (sound familiar anyone?)...really well done and interesting, I recommend this movie...

Megan is a woman in her late 20s who is first depicted as a teenager with her teenage friends fooling around, after which she has gotten an advanced degree in family counseling, but hated the job and ends up dropping out and living with her parents, basically having failed to reach true adulthood. At one friend's wedding, a high school boyfriend proposes to her, upsetting her, and worse yet, she finds her father cheating with another woman. The movie shifts gears, and Megan drives off, upset, until she reaches a teenage girl and her friends and illegally buys them booze. They talk and exchange numbers, and she returns to see her boyfriend, who is ready to elope-but Megan makes up a story about going to a seminar to delay things. Afterward, the teenage girl asks Megan to impersonate her estranged mother at a school meeting, and she takes Megan to her home-only to be discovered by her lawyer father. Megan then makes up a story about needing a place to stay, and the father agrees. There is more, but the problem with the whole movie is obvious-Megan is not merely immature, but dishonest with everyone, and though she tries to help people, she comes across as a user. Supposedly a romantic comedy, but has very little of either, and Megan never seems to grow up like we expected her to.

As she faces an impending proposal and possible estrangement from her friends, twenty-something Megan (Keira Knightley) is experiencing a premature mid-life crisis. After buying booze for an underage girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) in front of the liquor store, she befriends the teen and her friends and winds up moving in with her for a week while she tries to sort out her life. Laggies is a bit of a drama, a bit of a romance, and maybe a bit of a comedy but doesn't offer up much drama, romance or comedy. Knightley and Moretz are fine in their roles, but the movie, while pleasant enough of a way to spend ninety minutes, is ultimately as improbable as it is inconsequential.

The beginning was horrible, but "Laggies" turned out to be a very nice surprise. I think this is my favorite Kiera Knightly movie and I don't really like her that much at all. Completely unexpected, which is my favorite kind of movie. Not at all what I was expecting. I'm glad I gave it a chance. The fact that it takes place in Seattle was a huge plus, BTW.

At first, I wasn't impressed with this grown woman still hanging out with her high school crowd and then getting involved with a group of real high school kids and almost regressing there herself, but th movie grew on me and by the end, I like it. The good cast had a lot to do with that--Sam Rockwell is always good!

Simple, and good. I like everyone, and there are a few lines that have enough weight to be taken with thoughtful consideration.

Laggies is as routine as your morning coffee order, but its very polished and well acted and tender. A Sam Rockwell performance is never a bad idea.

I don't know why I was expecting something different from what this was but I was. It was okay and that's about it. I don't know why I was expecting something different from what this was but I was.

Socially awkward in avoiding conceptually understanding honesty from frontal commitment but that is part of the addressed reality regarding the revealing titular term with nicely stirred and well-pointed ideas towards helpfully reflective realizations. Excellent communication skills delivered by the impeccably charming cast with satisfying arcs, albeit the awkward bumps whenever strayed from the more interesting subject like an equivalent to procrastination of deflect rather than reflect. (B+)

Knightley's "revelation" in the end is frustratingly cheap, and in a lesser movie could've ruined the whole thing. Instead, it just leaves a (admittedly deep) scar on an otherwise sweet-natured and funny indie. All the performances are solid, with Rockwell especially deftly pulling off a fairly silly character with more than a few inflated moments. It's a solid argument for growing up, in spite of our sadly infuriating tendencies to stay young.

So we have a thoroughly irresponsible, immature character who consistently lies to and hurts other people...and she's the heroine of the film. Couple that with a thoroughly implausible romance that's about an inch deep and you have one of the most annoying films my wife and I have seen in a long time. We were in the mood for a coming-of-age/romantic dramedy, which is what this movie ostensibly is. We were thoroughly disappointed.

A fine enough flick with some great performances from its big names (as always) and a cute plotline, but that isn't enough to save this one from the pit of mediocrity.

What a surprise and a gem. A sweet, unique story about those difficult transition years of your 20's. Kiera Knightly is perfect playing an American 20-something rebelling against the shackles of her suburban upbringing and expectations, and pushing the limits on at what age a person should grow up and what it means to grow up. Sam Rockwell as usual steals the show with his perfect depiction of a dad trying to do his best.
