The Last Boy Scout Reviews
A story about lonely heroism in a sick age should be a little hipper to what’s really heroic and what’s really sick.

When automobiles are not crashing, going over embankments or being blown up (the film's favorite mode of distressing a car), someone falls atop the rotors of a helicopter in mid-air. The body count is high.

It's very similar to Shane Black's previous scripts, but the action and the fast and funny one-liners almost make the film a five-star, must-see movie in the vein of Lethal Weapon and Die Hard.

Pointless and vile, The Last Boy Scout is a perfect example of what's wrong with Hollywood.

A few big laughs, a lot of big explosions and a ripping climax to boot.

Violent, chauvinist and funny, and I enjoyed it tremendously.

It's a slick, dumb, exciting, implausible, surprising movie, told quickly and cleanly.

It's a very problematic movie, no doubt, but it's frequently the biggest problems that are the most interesting things to study.

Everything seems mechanical, forced and contrived.

A cheerfully disreputable buddy thriller that also happens to be one of most entertaining movies of the season.

...formulaic from start to finish.

There’s not a lot of chemistry between Willis and Wayans, but both can be flat-out funny, and the script provides them plenty of opportunity to zing each other as well as the cartoonish bad guys.

The apotheosis of the modern interracial-buddy action film genre.

Every element is present and correct in this violent, smart-mouthed, buddy-buddy action comedy, with just enough of an ironic inflection to ensure that familiarity breeds content.

A slick, big-budget exploitation movie that's preposterous, foul-mouthed and gratuitously violent, but also a great deal of fun.
