This movie was unexpectedly enigmatic. Much was said that I'm not sure I really understood exactly what information or family secret the protagonists were trying to convey. How did a Princeton's professor family become so rich? And Michael Caine playing an American just didn't ring so true. Besides, the movie was really slow. But it wasn't bad - maybe we were just too tired to watch it. And Paris is such a photogenic city - I really became a bit nostalgic and sad that I didn't grow up there...
She’s terrific. She rescues Michael Cains character- and pisses me off by going after his depressed married son. It’s SLOW. But I couldn’t put it down.
Nice performances by Michael Caine and Clémence Poésy balances some rather bland performances.

Slow but lovable drama about an old man coping with his wife's death and the acquaintance of a quirky young woman. While nothing spectacular happens, the film is carried by its performances, especially Caine and Poesy have a great chemistry together. I'm just not entirely sure I was okay with the solution.
The weird twist at the ending spoils the whole film despite Michael Caine gives a solid performance.
Caine can't seem to settle onto an American accent to use. And the more the movie goes on you realize just how unlikeable the character is until, ultimately, there is no point in watching it at all.
The negative critics ought to spend more time around those who have lost life's partner. They may have had a better empathy. I liked that it was low paced as it was in line with the melancholy of the main character. I felt the performances of both Caine & Poesy were excellent,
A beautiful film about finding companionship when you least expect it and discovering how meaningful a true friendship is.
The one star is for the gorgeous interior and exterior locations. Otherwise if it was possible to bestow a negative number of starts, that is what would happen. Michael Caine was beyond bland, making the premise of the young woman falling for him totally absurd. It was painful to watch the actors going through the script, obviously hoping for "finis" to mercifully put an end to it.
Not so interesting, until the appearance of Justin Kirk & Gillian Anderson.
Great film. Slow paced but never dull. Only slight downside is Michael Caines terrible accent.
Bit of a c**p film but was sadly emotional.
I'm a sucker for anything French. This was such a gentle movie. I was really enjoying myself but that ending is so sad it almost ruined the whole movie for me.
Adorable! So thought they were going to have a relationship.
The first half is very strong with its flirtation with having a "Lost in Translation"-esque kind of story. However, it all goes downhill when the script decides to play it safe and bring in the gallons and gallons of sentimentality with the introduction of the typical estranged kids, cancer and other cliches.

I enjoyed this movie until the last ten minutes. If you watch it - it's beautiful and interesting - turn it off before the last ten minutes and make up your own ending.
