Life Itself Reviews

The film is trying to show how one thing can impact several lives for better and for worse. This isn’t a bad idea, and there are occasional bursts of appeal scattered about. But the execution is hopelessly barbaric.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Jul 14, 2024

The most insulting and manipulative movie of the year.

| Original Score: F | Apr 3, 2024

Life Itself is too self-indulgent, sappy, and overly sentimental for its own good. By the last third, it becomes manipulative and even tedious.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Aug 16, 2022

The film from This is Us guru Dan Fogelman is a Xerox of his 온라인카지노추천 show. Grab some Kleenexes and cue the schmaltz.

Is this what happens when Hollywood makes so many sequels and shared universes? Do its writers try to go mad with the power that's already been wrested from them, reducing life to overwritten balderdash?

| Original Score: D | Jan 28, 2021

This cast deserves a better script.

Schmaltzy to the point where it becomes nauseating.

Fogelman's movie is too sadistic to feel wholesome and too tidy to feel poetic. I appreciate Fogelman swinging for the fences, but sometimes ya gotta admit when it doesn't quite work.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 29, 2020

It's so over the top and contrived in its manipulative melodrama and forced emotions, I was doing enough eye-rolls to become a Limp Bizkit track.

| Original Score: 1/5 | Aug 27, 2020

A sadistic part of me actually wants everyone to go see this, just to see how disastrously wrong a normally reliable writer and a host of fine actors can still go when given such weak material. It's tempting, I know, but even I'm not that cruel.

Life Itself is so insipid, so aggressively self-absorbed that for a few hours after the screening ended, I thought I may give up watching movies forever, lest I be subject to something as interminably unpleasant as this shameful, pointless drivel.

Despite boasting an impressive cast that gives it their all, Life Itself and the stories it tries to tell feel disconnected and distant, attempting to be dramatic and only coming across as pandering.

| Original Score: 3.5/10 | Oct 29, 2019

This film had all the right ingredients, but it became a recipe for trite that should have been much better.

| Aug 20, 2019

The sort of sprawling saga meant to make audiences laugh, cry, and nod approvingly at moments they might recognize from their own roller coaster lives. Unfortunately, a deep sigh and a dismissive shrug will be all that many folks might be able to muster.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Jul 18, 2019

So many feels...

| May 21, 2019

Yet another insipid and cringe-worthy melodrama taking the "it's all connected" route while landing the biggest dissociative emotional belly flop of the year.

| Original Score: .5/5 | Mar 20, 2019

Life Itself is a waste of time. [Full Review in Spanish]

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Mar 1, 2019

If you're a fan of characters, feelings, and lives told through intersections, this is a must see.

| Original Score: 7/10 | Feb 27, 2019

A contrived, tone-deaf, misogynistic and violently bizarre work that whiplashes between being a Tarantino wannabe and a quiet indie, with an ending that only works if there was another installment coming next Tuesday.

| Feb 6, 2019

"Life Itself" isn't bad because it's melodramatic or manipulative. It's bad because it can't tell a coherent story or create a single believable character. It isn't bad because it's sad. It's bad because it's, well ... bad. Really bad.
