Lizzie Reviews

Overall, this film is an interesting portrayal of the Lizzie Borden story, even if it is taking some liberties with the facts (I really don't know). I found it gripping, though I'm forever miffed when a film that's ostensibly a nuanced portrayal of women still has the film's actresses showing their boobs, nipples in frame at all times. Also, it would be nice if every once in a while if a female character who never exercises and has no access to cosmetic surgeons LOOKS like a woman who never exercises and has no access to a cosmetic surgeon, you know, since all actresses under 30 still have to be willing to take their clothes off to do what they love as a career.

I don’t know why people didn’t like this movie. It was expertly done. I was riveted the entire time. Perhaps Kristen Stewart does some overacting. But Chloe Sevigny was superb!

I believe this was the best account of Lizzie Borden. Kristen Stewart was superb

It's far from perfect and a bit stagey but it's ok.

Jeremy Kyle would’ve had a field day

Lizzie is very relatable. Knowing more of the back story helps her cause. From this stand point. Her father and mother had it coming to them. Fantastic movie.

This is a good period drama - a decent character based drama too. The two main performances are very good - Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart give compelling portrayals. Sevigny's performance is especially great - captivating almost. Its spooky how blank her facial expressions are, given what happens. The story I found intriguing - the fact its based on (I believe) a true story is sobering. I felt frustrated on behalf of Lizzie, trying to find out what her family have planned etc. - men don't treat her too well. The relationship between Lizzie and Bridget is strained and distant initially but they come into their own and it becomes quite a compelling watch. As a part LGBT film this is a very good watch, if a little slow plot wise. I can understand why some may feel its a bit exploitative or controversial being based on a clearly somewhat disturbing true story but most of the film isn't especially graphic. I would warn, however, that the last 20 minutes or so is quite violent (bloody violence and injury detail shown), so it's not for the overly squeamish, unless your ok to look away at key moments towards the end. Yes, I'd recommend this film, especially for fans of the two main actors already mentioned.

Could've been so much better but incredibly boring. Both actresses underutilized as is the lesbian side of this take. Historical drama was never so dull.

Three stars simply for Kristen Stewart. The official Lizzie Borden Cinematic Universe ranking is: 1) Elizabeth Montgomery for ABC 2) Christina Ricci for Lifetime 3) Chloe Sevigny for movie theaters

Not at all like the real story and just very poor production

I thought this was very well acted, and a different take on a mystery that the passage of time has not let fade.

I don't know how you take one of the most compelling murder mysteries in American history, remix it with forbidden lesbian romance, and make a boring film, but they sure managed to.

Very dry film about a famous crime! Could have been such a creepy story, but it turned into a snooze fest. I don't know what the director tries to explain here. The crime, the motivation, the physilogical side of it or what? Seems everything is not getting anywhere. A waisted potential story the acting is very flat, no emotion not even the hate. I can't feel anything from them.

I wasn't expecting much but Sevigny and Stewart's performances blew me away! Yes, this is a feminist interpretation of the Lizzie Borden story but done in a way that feels raw and real rather than forced.

It loses sight of the sisters relationship and gives few characters but Lizzie anything to do.

Sorry to say but I found this boring, uneventful & consider it to be a poor representation of true events that remain a mystery to this day.

Lizzie is not the gory horror audiences wanted to see. The movie turns a true crime story into a romantic drama instead of focusing on what turned Lizzie into an axe-wielding murderer.

Incredibly boring, Lizzie is a bizarre and monotonous "true life" crime drama. The story follows Lizzie Borden, an oppressed and victimized young woman who forms a friendship with the new housemaid and conspires with her to murder her parents. Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart lead the cast and they give fairly decent performances. However, the plot is absurd; proposing that Mr. Borden was raping the maid and that Lizzie was secretly a lesbian. But worse yet is the slow, languished pacing and dullness of the directing style. Lizzie is a lackluster biopic that's more fiction than fact.

This is "Thoroughbreds" for the stuffiest of filmgoers.

I am not quite sure why this movie was made, but I can tell you that the two lead performances (Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart) are fantastic, and the rest of the actors are excellent also. This movie doesnâ(TM)t add anything new to solving the mystery of Lizzie Bordenâ(TM)s personality, although it does do some speculating and interprets some of the known facts. It is also a beautifully done history piece with an atmosphere of claustrophobia. If you are not an expert on Lizzie Borden and/or you want to see some wonderful screen acting, I'd recommend to watch it with boxxy software app. This movie is well worth your time.
