Logan's Run Reviews

Apr 17, 2025

If you ever wondered where AI gets its outlandish ideas from, look no further than Logans run.

Apr 9, 2025

This had potential but there are a lot of things that are incongruous to good story telling. For example who runs this world and why is it run in this way? Potentially to manage resources but some hint of that would be useful. It doesnt need to be a paint by numbers but at least something to explain how this society came to be and why it was so fragile in the end because after all this running and subterfuge, all of sudden towards the end of the film, the whole system collapses because of a few punches here and a few shots there and then pft! It’s gone. Also the acting is really bad - it’s so stilted as though they were reciting Shakespeare. It cant be because of the age of the film - this was shot 20 years after Brando bought a more naturalistic form of acting. Yet in Logan’s run, i almost expected the actors to shake hands at the end of the scene it was so bizarre. So really it’s a camp film but not in a good way.

A must see for classic sci-fi enthusiasts.

The carousel scene was the one part that was very well done. It was most effective in creating a chilling mood.

The bad acting, direction, and toned down script are quite detrimental. Though it's still-impressive visuals, effects, and the noticeable remains of it's inner moral story make it a worth-while watch (even if just once) for true sci-fi fans.

Not great, but interesting and fairly resonant world building. 2.75/5

One of my favourite sci-FI movies of all time. Great emotional ending that left me thinking about the movie for a long time after it had ended.

Michael York apparently was a bad actor if he couldn't make his character believable. And Peter Ustinov?? What on Earth made him want to be in such a weak movie? He was Way better than That. Cheesey, horrible "plot" and writing. Bad directing. What a waste of almost 2 hours

I saw this a long time ago, but it appears I never wrote my review. So I’m just gonna say I liked it a lot. It has one of the more interesting depictions of the future out there, even if the visuals are super outdated lol. I loved the realization from the main character that no one was getting recycled, that blew my mind (even if it was predictable). I think I’ll rewatch this one and see if I still like it. Either way I think you should see this one at least once, 3.5/5 stars.

It's got a lot of interesting ideas and production value behind it and for the most part the story works. The problem is the direction, campiness, and acting leaves a lot to be desired in this case. The acting is easily the weakest part and is just ok. The chemistry between the two leads isn't anything special and the dialouge is just ok as well. Everything else though isn't bad about including some solid editing. There is tons of practical effects in this and exotic set design but it looks ok and hasn't aged anywhere as well as some of its contemporaries from this era. It reminds me of the asetics of something like Barberella or Superman The Movie (with the camp of each as well). Sometimes it can look a little cheap every now and than also with certain elements but the effort shows overall. The music alternates between being boring and a weird whiny synth and good cinematic scores. It defintely needed a more memorable and consistent soundtrack. The camerawork is pretty basic and certain scenes feel like they just drag on like when they meet the old man and ask 20 questions with him. This needed to speed things up every now and than. The story isn't broken either and makes perfect sense again just needed better acting, faster/more consistent pacing, and more consistent score than anything. It's cool to see a standalone Sci-Fi flick pre Star Wars from this era though. Anyone who is a fan of any actors in this, Pre Star Wars Sci-Fi, or the director may want to check this out. This could probably be remade with a better director and be superior today.

Absolutely preposterous screenplay and even worse production. It's too obvious that huge minutes of the footage were shot in a shopping mall and. worse, a sewage treatment plant. Jenny really makes tracks in that mini and high heels during the "run," eh? Reportedly sets and special effects ate up most of the budget especially that laughable "carousel" stuff. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the really bad matte paintings of DC in the third act. How TF did they get a good actor like Ustinov to take that role when everyone else in the cast is a hack?

I think that the movie works because of the design elements, not in spite of them (for one thing, having a hedonistic society where no one is allowed to live past 30 exist entirely in an ugly shopping mall works a little too well). Also its well cast and has the right blend of pessimism and hope.

An iconic sci-fi with a great plot, memorable characters (an almost supernaturally gorgeous Jenny Agutter) and some truly fantastic future utopian/dystopian society ideas. Loved it on its release and still love it after rewatching it many times since. It's aged a little but the core premise and movie are still absolute class. A cult favourite sci-fi classic for a very good reason.

I saw this when it first came out in 1976, and then again around 2010. I rarely see movies twice, because there are so many movies I haven't seen yet, but I wanted to see this again, and it holds up. Like all utopian to dystopian movies, I love the utopian part the best. The rest is good, as is the transition, but the utopian part puts me in an idyllic zone that I never want to leave and have always looked for...Michael York is captivating, and you get to see Farrah just before she was famous!

Though I am familiar with the movie "Logan's Run" and even watched an episode or two of the short lived 1977 television series that was based on the movie, I never had much of an interest in seeing it. Recently a friend watched the movie and recommended it to me so I decided to give it a look nearly five decades after its release. "Logan's Run" is not a terrible movie. However I found the movie itself rather mediocre Let's start with some of the movie's positive aspects. "Logan's Run" does have an impressive cast. Michael York (Logan 5), Jenny Augutter (Jessica) and the late Richard Jordan (Francis) are all very good actors who, in my opinion, give consistently good performances. The movie also has a well written script and a good story. The production design is not great, but it is impressive and pretty much hold up even by today's digital standards. The scenes of the post apocalyptic Washington DC are quite good. I also like that for once we see a movie that shows modern civilization can be annihilated by things other than nuclear war. This review would not be complete without mentioning the late Peter Ustinov. One year before his career defining performance as Hercule Poirot in the original film adaptation of "Death on the Nile", he is excellent as the elderly man Logan and Jessica find living in the remnants of the United States Capitol. Listed as "The Old Man" in the movie's credits, Ustinov gives the best performance of the movie. While the movie does have its high points as I have mentioned, overall I felt the movie to be a little dull at times. I also found it very hard to believe that Logan and Jessica can easily go from being totally submerged in water to a cave of ice without dying of pneumonia. They also jump from a high cliff into a pool of water without suffering any kind of injury. "Logan's Run" is a very flawed movie, but it does have some entertaining moments. It is worth seeing at least once.

Over 45 years old, remains one of the most recognizable sci-fi flicks Stars a very young Michael York, the late Farrah Fawcett, and Jenny Agutter In the future of 2274 young people enjoy a hedonistic lifestyle protected by a giant dome by a computer taking all aspects of life They believe when they reach 30 years of age they’ll be reborn for another life cycle but the ones who know the actual truth become “runners” making their own sanctuary They’re actually killed with a glowing crystal in their hands indicating their “final” days Logan, an officer goes undercover to infiltrate but soon ends up operating a revolution to turn things around along with Jessica Both of them escape the home they once knew foreign to the outside world and never witnessed an elderly individual going past their age limit This actually set the precedent for sci-fi blockbusters Inspired other movies like Michael Bay's ‘The Island’ The cheese factor is there no doubt but the movie has impressive sets, flashy costumes, and trippy visuals Here this movie gets across the idea of a perfect future while forcing people to confront the moral corruption of societies built upon the dead and increasingly reliant on insidious technology The movie's themes of government mistrust, utopia, dystopia, hedonism, population control, mandatory euthanasia, cosmetic surgery and free loves are more prevalent than ever now A marvel comics series followed after including a short lived tv series The last half hour drags but it's a nice ‘planet of the apes like approach’ that screams intelligent science-fiction filmmaking

In the late 60s and early 70s, the sci-fi genre started to evolve from low-budget exploitation movies to more thought-provoking films. Logan's Run aimed for the latter but failed miserably. Set in 2274, humanity exists under geodesic domes where all aspects of life, including lifespan, are controlled by the government. When Logan 5 (Michael York) and Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter) escape, they soon discover a separate reality. It's a great idea, but it is horribly executed. The dialogue throughout is embarrassing and isn't helped by the wooden acting. On top of that, Michael Anderson's direction seems to be from the 'let's point the camera in this direction and hope for the best' school of thought. And to top it all off, for those with a keen eye, the continuity is as brutal as one could ever imagine.

A beautiful sci-fi movie, in a future where no one is allowed to live beyond 30, a man dares to challenge the status quo, of course he wasn't fond of the idea, but love got in the way. I loved it!

A solid and enjoyable Science fiction film that despite the dated effects, still sends a concise and interesting message. The ending felt a bit too rushed and far fetched but it can only be taken for what it is. Certainly worth a watch.
