The Lost World: Jurassic Park Reviews
...lost sight of some of the deeper things that allowed [the first film] to give a bit of weight to the more showy aspects. There's nowhere near as much attention to establishing the themes.

Is it as good or groundbreaking as Jurassic Park? Definitely not ... But this is still an expertly-crafted, exciting film that’s packed with amazing sequences that take this series to a different, less glamorous, and more frantic place.

A film that has its moments, which includes some terrific action and visual effects, but overall remains one of Steven Spielberg's most disappointing and disposable entertainments in a mostly impressive career.

The best Jurassic Park sequel, because it's directed by Steven Spielberg.
| Original Score: B | Jun 9, 2022
Has none of the awe or spectacle that its predecessor had perfected, nor any of the thoughtful moral and scientific analysis that made Jurassic Park unique for an escapist adventure.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Jun 9, 2022
While it pales in comparison to the original, there’s plenty to appreciate when viewed through a different lens.

Despite so many excesses in every element of filmmaking, the story can't equal the sheer brilliance and originality of its predecessor.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park seeks to raise the stakes from the earlier 1993 classic but the sequel doesn't improve upon the original.

An impeccable technical display but completely devoid of soul. [Full Review in Spanish]

Where's the scene of someone riding a dinosaur? Where's the climatic showdown between a triceratops and T-rex? Where's the scene of a massive monster going down in a hail of gunfire? Where's the point?

So where's the intellectual science fiction? Gone. Where's the humanity of personal arcs driven by emotional evolution? Gone.

While the cloned package does elicit a nagging sense of déjà vu, such feelings never get in the way of the overpowering excitement and spectacular special effects, which are served up in deliciously scary dollops.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 8, 2020
I was disappointed as much as I was thrilled because "The Lost World" lacks a staple of Steven Spielberg's adventure films: exciting characters.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Apr 8, 2020
Although it's "just a movie" and "all in good fun," there's something kind of not fun about a film that opens with a sweet little girl being eaten alive by a flock of pigeon sized dinosaurs. (Parent alert: The film's PG 13 rating is a joke.)

Taking the funniest character from the first film and handing the reins over to him was a pretty brazen move that paid off in more ways than one.

The Lost World is no Jurassic Park, but it's an enjoyable action spectacle with fun characters and top-drawer effects.

The Aliens of Jurassic Park movies.

It's clear right from the word go that The Lost World: Jurassic Park marks a considerable step down from its sublime predecessor...
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Jun 14, 2015
A serviceable but lackluster sequel that is more focused on excess (more deaths, more action) than it is on its characters.
| Original Score: 3.0/5 | Jun 10, 2015
Narratively inept, unconvincingly edited and nearly deficient of suspense...
