Man of Tai Chi Reviews
Keanu Reeves is a good director and a better villain. The fight scenes are great and the story is really interesting. Keanu resurrected his carrer with John Wickbut this get him there
This movie is a classic for me. I love the style and lore of this film. The twists and the choices the main character must make. Super underrated film.
Need some real stuff to be anywhere near legendary. Unbelievable shot angles didn't do it any credits either.
The story isn't anything special, but has some very entertaining fight scenes full of fast paced martial arts, although they tend to be understated rather than showy in their style. Reeves suits his role as the mysterious benefactor pulling the strings, but does look a bit out of place considering the rest of the cast. The film has a good length to it, but seemed to lack something overall.
Something to watch and forget.
Applaud to Keanu Reeves' directorial debut because it has definitely met the expectation. I just wish they would tell us more about the villain's world. Nice fighting scenes and give the credit to Tiger Chen for portraying the character of an innocent man who is all about the martial arts values and beliefs.
Película de artes marciales sin pretensiones de ser otra cosa; incluso tiene algunos movimientos de cámara y detalles en las coreografías de lucha que se entienden como homenaje al género. Consigue lo que busca.
Keanu Reeves directs and plays the villain in this fun martial arts action film about an underground fight league with fatal consequences for defeat. Not necessarily so original but highly watchable. A lot of famous martial artists of various styles make appearances throughout, giving it an extra 1/2 star for martial arts aficionados. Tiger Chen is good in the lead role of the naive and morally conflicted protagonist.
I love this kind of movie!
this film has the problem that wants to be very serious but it fails and this is quite uncomfortable in the vision. The fights are still very beautiful and quite spectacular. But the plot in general is a foregone conclusion
A top-tier, old meets new, entry into the martial arts canon, and an excuse for Keanu to give his friend some acting and martial arts work. Man of Tai Chi lovingly crafts many of its fight scenes so that the choreography and changes in the combat really breathe and with simple, unpretentious camera work, and a sly sort of cliche excuse for a plot that refuses to get in the way of the tropes we are all here to enjoy. Tiger and his baby face does a decent job and apart from some dodgy car crash CGI, and a sadly evil Keanu, the film boasts some solid cinematography, absolutely excellent music, Dark brutalist locations and great editing.
Decent directorial effort from Keanu Reeves, though it could be trimmed by a half hour. I looked to see how much of the movie was left about 4 or 5 times. The action scenes were plentiful and very well-choreographed, but there were superhero-like elements of "chi" utilized about midway through the film that took me out of the realm of believability completely. By that point, I was just waiting for the movie to finish. The acting by Tiger Hu Chen was good; he can definitely carry a film like this, but Keanu just has a more experienced level of Hollywood screen "presence" that he unfortunately can't help stealing the scene(s) from Tiger. Overall, Keanu has clearly paid attention to the various techniques and crafts of filmmaking throughout his career, and it shows in the delivery. The film, however, falls flat in its lengthy runtime and simplistic story and characterizations. Watch this if you're just a fan of martial arts movies.
I've always loved Keanu Reeves in all his movies. From Bill & Ted to John Wick. Tiger Chan was a supper fighter. He was great.
The fighting scenes are actually quite good.. Keanu as a big bad guy didn't really go all the way.. eventhough it's better then the alternative...
