Richard Donner certainly knew how to deliver a fun ride. Westerns and poker movies have a natural coolness, and these themes shine beautifully with energy and humor, most especially thanks to Mel Gibson’s undeniable star power. Then there’s the incomparable Jodie Foster…

One of my favorite movies growing up. It’s a fun, witty, simple adventure that never gets old

Una buena comedia divertida y picara

Gibson has never looked crazier in a movie (Lethal Weapon included). His constant mugging for the camera here isn't funny, it's painful. Donner does his best with the material, but it never feels as fun as it wants to be.

This is another highly underrated movies. Such a great movie chock full of stars and country music legends! It has a decent storyline, lots of comedy, romance, and plenty of action. This one has it all!!

I found Maverick charming and funny with a real love of Western tropes. Iconic American director Richard Donner's revisionist Western comedy Maverick (1994) is quite entertaining and surprisingly funny. Donner's direction is playful, steadily paced, and generally good natured with his near spoof of Westerns. It's certainly a revisionist Western like Silverado or Dead Man, but extremely silly like Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles at times. I don't know why this had to go on for so long either, like why are there five different endings? It's a long feeling 127 minutes. I enjoyed Maverick immensely, however, it does not compare to Richard Donner's best pictures like The Omen, Superman, Ladyhawke, or The Goonies. Donner lambasts all sorts of Westerns with a gleeful smirk and nod to the classics. Maverick definitely makes fun of Hang ‘Em High, How the West Was Won, Showboat, and Dances with Wolves. Donner directly pays tribute to Once Upon a Time in the West, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Stagecoach, Duck You Sucker, Winchester ‘73, Unforgiven, and Tombstone among other classic Westerns. The writing is very clever with twists and turns alongside pleasant comedy for an upbeat atmosphere. Casting director Marion Dougherty found tons of stars for Richard Donner's ensemble cast full of Donner's old favorites. Mel Gibson is charming and quirky as the bumbling card shark Bret Maverick. He's quite funny and likable and never feels malicious. Jodie Foster is gorgeous and engaging as the lovable gambling lady Annabelle Bransford. She's just the kind of femme fatale from old Westerns with a bit of a twist on her snarky personality. Foster eagerly portrays both a dumb blonde and brilliant con artist with her manipulator Annabelle. James Garner is excellent as the amiable Sheriff Zane Cooper with a cool quickdraw like Gibson's. Graham Greene's fun loving Native American Joseph is hilarious. Alfred Molina's sinister crook Angel is actually gripping and intimidating. Maverick has some of Molina's best acting. James Coburn is as kooky as ever as the rich gentleman Commodore Duvall, who is hosting a high stakes poker tournament. Dan Hedaya cameos as the poker player Twitchy. Paul L. Smith is a riot as the bloodthirsty and foolish Archduke. Max Perlich is creepy as the gunfighter Johnny Hardin. Danny Glover's robber cameo is super funny opposite Mel. Margot Kidder's cameo is hysterical as the missionary Margaret Mary. There's so many inside jokes for lovers of Richard Donner's movies. Richard Donner himself is one of the dealers and his wife is the lady at the bathhouse in the last scene. Editors Stuart Baird and Michael Kelly bring suspense with their careful cuts during tense conversations. They make threats hang in the air. I liked their fast cuts to cut down on the distance traveled by characters. Cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond has stunning wide shots of the desert in all its vastness. But, my favorite shots were his striking close-up shots that focus in on the eyes. Composer Randy Newman creates a plucky film score with warm, heartfelt romance and playful tenderness to his orchestral music. Newman works best as a film composer for movies like Awakenings and The Natural. His score for Maverick feels very of the era and pleasant. Costume designers April Ferry, Linda Henrikson, Paul H. Lopez, and Lyle Glazer create dazzling gowns for Jodie Foster that are jaw-dropping and eye-catching. Michael Hancock's makeup is really neat and transforms each person. Hairstyling from Christine Lee, Charlene Johnson, and Elaine Short give Foster a neat wavy style that's elegant and messy all at once. In all, Maverick is a very fun Western comedy that will surely delight lovers of the genre.

If you're a fan of Mel Gibson or Jodie Foster, watch this movie. They are both excellent in this film and it's fun to watch them on screen together. The movie by itself, though, is really just a lot of funny/ action scenes put together with no real purpose. The storyline is not big enough to make this a great movie. Every goal is very small and, when achieved, very anticlimactic. The problem is just solved, and then it's on to the next small problem. Very good movie with a great cast. All of the main characters play their roles perfectly and the timing between them is special. Worth a watch no matter the movie type you like because it has it all action, comedy, romance and plot twists.

That classic Western blend of action and comedy, with your favourite 70s and 80s actors. Still hits the sweet spot stacked up against current movies.

This is a great western that doesn't take itself too seriously. Mel Gibson is great as usual. The rest of the cast is great as well. Jodie Foster plays a thief instead of your usual damsel in distress. I like all the twists and turns.

Movies based on 온라인카지노추천 shows rarely work. The reason being that the movie tends to follow the same formula of a 온라인카지노추천 and not a big budget movie. Something happens. A small twist. Conclusion. Something happens. Small twist. Conclusion. That works for 온라인카지노추천 with commercial breaks and a short story. Not so much with a movie. And that's the problem with Maverick. The story is a little weak. Maverick, played by an awesome Mel Gibson, is a professional gambler. He's on his way to a big poker tournament, but is a few thousand dollars short for the entry fee. On his way to the tournament, Maverick visits multiple friends to collect money that is owed to him. The second act of the movie is the actual poker tournament. Then the third act is just one twist after another. This is Mel Gibson in his prime. I can't say enough how well he plays this character. And his chemistry with Jodie Foster is great. You can tell that they have a real friendship off camera. The rest of the cast is, of course, awesome at what they do… but, they really lack a lot of meaning. Alfred Molina plays the bad guy who hates Maverick. We don't know why. He was also hired to stop Maverick from reaching the poker tournament. Again, we don't know why. And James Garner plays a law man who is also on his way to the poker tournament as hired security. Which, really just comes across as a way to include Garner in the remake of the role he played on 온라인카지노추천. The rest of the cast serve no real purpose. Just there for a scene or two and then they're gone. It's like a series of small random ideas all strung together. If this movie was released as a mini series, I think it would have done much better. So much of it doesn't go together. At the beginning, Maverick wins a fight with a group of guys. Later we find he hired them. Why? Don't know. While on a wagon train, the driver dies. Maverick saves the wagon train. How does this drive the story forward? It doesn't. Maverick saves a large stack of cash that was stolen from some missionaries building an orphanage. Does this help our star achieve his goal. Nope. Chris Mann writes reviews for movies streaming online. This classic comedy is really good. Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, James Garner, and the rest of the cast did a fantastic job in this movie. The plot of the movie was humorous and entertaining. It's one of those movies that makes you think what will happen next and keep you interested the entire time. If you haven't seen this movie yet, check it out sometime. It's a must see.

All the actors had a helluva good time, and so did I. Foster is particularly fun.

Not a fan of westerns, but Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster were great and the story was decent to where it made this film not bad.
