Synopsis
During World War I, military nurse Laura (Diana Wynyard) is planning to marry her soldier sweetheart, but he's killed in battle. Laura later weds Edward (Lewis Stone), an army officer, and vows to raise her son, Robert (Phillips Holmes), as a pacifist. By 1940, Robert is newly engaged, Edward has become secretary of state and the nation is again at war. Laura's sad past is revealed to Robert, and she urges pacifism on him, but his participation in the escalating conflict may be inevitable.
