After 2 hours I felt like it was just a whole lot of nothing maybe 80% of the time. Especially Pitt's storyline up until he reunites with Roberts & Gandofani. It feels like nothing happens basically and is so meandering in like a Tarintino style way but it's not as good so it just feels so....nothing. Like not even terrible or anything. Everything about this as a whole is just ok middle of the road. Oddly enough the storyline of Roberts with Gandofini is the better of the two and he's the one consistent good thing in this. I honestly wish it would've been a road movie focused on those two most of the time. They have decent chemistry actually compared with Pitt where their just alright. This is a road crime movie mixed with like a Romance kind of like a True Crime sort of but not exactly. The direction is decent and I do like the lighting/color filtering. But there just isn't much going on. Like an hour 20 minutes in nothing much has happened and yet to it's credit it's not terrible just going nowhere and kind of boring at points. The whole gun plot is stupid and it either needed to just focus on refining that story or committing to Roberts. As it is, it doesn't succeed at either and for better ot worse it just leaves close to no impression on you at all. Skip This.

Superb, funny, atmospheric comedy which sees Gandolphini in top form as, what else, a gangster.

An incredibly entertaining romp exercising the comedic chops of Pitt, Roberts, and Gandolfini. This is the type of movie that you can watch multiple times without it ever getting old.

I just love this. Great acting by Brad Pitt, a very good screenplay. One of these days I'm going to watch this again.

I watched it for about ten minutes. Terrible. Pitt at his early career bad. I'm glad they persisted with him because he got a lot better.

Silly entertainment! 'The Mexican' works as a comedy and works as an adventure road trip flick, so it evidently achieved what it set out to do. This 2001 release features a strong cast, as we get Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts together alongside James Gandolfini, J. K. Simmons and Gene Hackman. I enjoyed all five, especially the first three. It's not a film to be taken overly serious, it's one to enjoy and I got a lot of enjoyment from it - credit to Gore Verbinski & Co. Recommended? Definitely!

This is a warped, near black comedy with intriguing characters, tragic and romantic plot twists, some striking absurdities, and a plot within a plot ... or three. I've enjoyed it several times, but one must set aside expectations, as the actors step outside thier usual territories.

I like Pitt and Roberts, but their squabbling characters become almost shrill in their few (mercifully) brief scenes together. However, Gandolfini is fine as a (Tony Soprano-like) hit man with added dimensions. He and Roberts are wonderful together. But frankly, the Pitt character's separate storyline is as sorry as that woebegone dog that makes (unaccountable) repeated appearances in his scenes. J.K. Simmons (always good) shows up, but unfortunately doesn't have much to do and simply disappears part way through the story. Plus, that valuable, antique gun everyone appears to covet is neither interesting nor dramatic as a plot-device, and far too much time is spent on it's boring back-story.

This was an interesting movie in that the best parts were the ones that Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts were not in together. Pitt had lots of energy and was charismatic. Julia was very good with James Gandolfini and he was very good too. It isn't a great movie, but it was entertaining. A lot happens with many twists and turns to keep you guessing. The comedy was kinda sloppy and movie might have been better if it was more serious. Overall not the best Pitt movie, but still an okay movie.

A solid film with a great cast that puts comedy, crime, and romance all into a blender, and makes a nice outcome.
