Midnight Special Reviews
Ohh, now i get why this movie gets mentioned so often. As a total wuss who won’t watch violent or disturbing movies, i cheated about halfway and checked the Wiki to see if watching to the end might be an option - big surprised grin seeing the synopsis for the second half, and it was every bit as enjoyable knowing what’s gonna happen. The general vibe of this film reminded me of Repo Man, eventually, getting increasing chuckles of glee out of me, and rapture that some people made a film on this kind of subject that I actually found satisfying, nothing grating, I don’t think I bitched at the 온라인카지노추천 a singl- no wait there was that One Bit where I scolded Kirsten Dunst for letting them make her do the stereotypical Female Does Suffering scene for a few seconds there, but the rest was A-ok, for Me : ) Loved the parenting style - treating small human as an equal, and with care.
Clear you mind and don't assume, question, or quibble, and just maybe the story will carry you away to a nice place. I don't often give out 5's but found nothing to keep me from doing so with one.
Great sci-fi drama with a thrilling end. Reminded me so much of the movie D.A.R.Y.L. I loved as a kid
Brilliant acting in the this sci-fi meets No Country for Old Men. Loved it!
Just enough tension and emotion to keep you hooked. And an all-star cast doesn't hurt.
A series of cliches that have been done before with considerably more panache, more engaging characters and better acting (Firestarter, Stranger Things, Hanna, Raising Dion, Looper just to name a few of the recent ones). Plot: Child with miraculous powers pursued by The Gub'mint and (to add some variety) a few religious fruitcakes. The religious types make a few inconsequential cameo appearances before they seem to lose interest and wander off, leaving the standard chased-by-the-Deep State action sequences to get out of the way before the movie grinds to a halt. Performances were universally awful. All the protagonists just looked bored & irritated, as if they were stuck in a laundromat on Sunday afternoon and their phone had gone flat. You had no idea of any of their motivations from the outset, and an hour + later you just didn't care. They seemed to think what they were doing was important enough to shoot people but that was never explained, even in the end. Frankly, I am shocked that the consensus score is as high as it is.
I'm a sucker for Jeff Nichols films and this didn't disappoint me. Great film. I'd recommend it those that like non fantastical, down to earth Sci Fi movies.
Sometimes, what we think we know about the universe has a habit of biting us in the back! On the run from the government and a cult, a father and his son travel across the American frontier as the boy begins to exhibit powers that boggle the mind, implying that the boy is not from this earth. What makes it such an intriguing story is that we do not fully understand what this alien power is, making it a mystery that leaves us guessing!
Okay, I had to edit this one and give a higher rating than I did initially. I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi and this counts.
It's an interesting genre piece. Nichols has made an early Spielberg/comic book movie hybrid, only he's successfully gutted it of clunky exposition and heavy handed sentimentality. Proof that these kinds of movies can have that fat trimmed away and still successfully sell their premise and characters.
In Jeff Nichols' style, and it reminded me of Take Shelter, only this a little more to pass time if you don't have much better options.
This is a terrific film.
Great casts but it could have been better.
I thought this movie had a very interesting story that could have been executed better but still a very solid movie. I'd really give it like a 7.5/10. I wish more than anything that we got to know the characters better.
A fantastic movie overall, whose ending falls just short of expectations. There's a lot to like and it's well worth a watch.
Very disappointing after interesting start with horribly stupid middle & ending; E x6
it was too slow, considering the actors I expected more.
This a great slow burn sci-fi film, one that stays with you long after seeing it, a what if movie. Great acting, cast and story highly recommended. There are not enough films like this imo. I also saw echoes of Starman and Escape to witch Mountain.
Excellent. Intense. Trippy.
This sci-fi film was okay. Chocky meets The Midwich Cuckoos, meets ET, meets a 1999 non-fiction book ("[ ...] Dawn") by author Colin Wilson. It dragged in places but was very watchable nonetheless.
