Misha and the Wolves Reviews
This film made me realise something, and perhaps you will too: that we often keep uncomfortable, devastating subjects at a distance, especially if we feel we have no connection or right to an opinion, and that in itself is damaging.

Whatever you do, please go into this film knowing as little as possible. The viewing experience will be rewarded for your patience.

With its deft touch and compelling story, Misha and the Wolves should be a strong awards contender in the coming year and part of the Oscar conversation.

Hobkinson is in complete control of the unfolding narrative and with editor Peter Norrey delivers a compelling film in 90 minutes that Netflix would have drawn out over 6 episodes... a story that simply must be seen to be believed
| Original Score: 4/5 | Nov 12, 2022
Perhaps Misha and the Wolves could have been a better film with less manipulation, but it’s a compelling story nonetheless.

A fun documentary in spite of the rawness of the story that makes you examine truth. [Full review in Spanish]

While its filmmaking may not stand on the whole, it does use the unique abilities of film to influence our perception of the truth in one specific way that floored me.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Jul 11, 2022
While the initial appeal is the mystery waiting to be solved, what makes you stay is not the truth, but the motivations of all involved. Far from being an open and shut case, the story shows that real life is far more complicated than fiction.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Mar 3, 2022
Misha and the Wolves is an astonishing film, laying out a story of betrayal, deceit, fraud and actual heroism and tragedy.

Unlike the dry recitation of facts that characterizes many documentaries, Misha and the Wolves is a lively, surprising film bursting with all the qualities that make great feature films great.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 15, 2021
There is a sense that the director is only scratching the surface, but the film is unceasingly engaging and provocative...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 7, 2021
In a world where we are, not without reason, encouraged to "believe victims" this film acts as a cautionary tale that while sympathy is natural and good, at least a little light scepticism can go a long way.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 9, 2021
There's a piece of deception at the heart of Sam Hobkinson's Misha and the Wolves which in this age of Holocaust denial, is distressingly slippery.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Sep 7, 2021
[An] intriguing but slightly manipulative documentary...
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 5, 2021
Despite a few narrative gaps that needed filling, Sam Hobkinson delivers a rollercoaster-ride of a documentary with superb characters, insightful talking heads and jaw-dropping plot twists.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 4, 2021
It's propulsively watchable if a tad light on reflection.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 2, 2021
That is all one should know before watching this especially well-crafted investigative piece, which presents its information with briskness, clarity and zero filler material.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 1, 2021
Not particularly memorable, but highly immersive in the moment.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Sep 1, 2021
This may be a documentary, but it has more outrageous twists than most mystery thrillers.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 19, 2021
A film with a gaping hole at its centre, and an intriguing but ultimately frustrating viewing experience.
