Mohawk Reviews

May 20, 2022

One of the best things I have seen in a long time.

A graphic look at the genocide of native Americans. The cast was supurb and it's very historically accurate. It is a little limited by it's budget but it's worth checking out.

Great acting, great cast, and great directing. Serious political undertones.

Once it gets going, fans of historically accurate drama will not be disappointed by this small scale but clever film with poignant pangs of drama and horror.

The worse movie I ever watched!!

Great message, good acting, loved this movie. Only an insecure Trumpster, unable to challenge the official, white version, of our country's history, would have a problem with this movie.

Set in the first decade of the early 19th century this gem of a tale unfolds in the beautiful Mohawk Valley of upstate New York. A brutal tale of survival and blood lust between 5 American misfit soldiers, a native woman, her native lover, and British lover, all on the run. I believe all the actors who play indigenous people are actual indigenous people. What a concept! Think of The Revelant without the big budget or the big bear.

83% from the critics? That's... quite something. No idea what this was. On the face of it, 'Mohawk' looks like it could be an interesting film - hence why I chose to watch it. That is not the case though, it is a pure waste of ninety-two minutes. There isn't one top performer in the cast. I won't single out any individuals in a negative way, given none of them gave anything truly that much worse than their counterparts, but not one stands out positively - at a push, Ian Colletti and David La Haye would be the only ones I'd praise and they weren't even on-screen for long at all. The scale of this is way off also. There's apparently a major war happening nearby yet we never get even an inch of incident from it. For the vast majority, it feels like you are just watching a group of people in a local forest. It's nothing personal to anyone involved, it never is from me, and I'm sure they've all given/will give better, but this is an extremely poor film.

Cheap horror masquerading as a period piece. It seems to offer nothing from the time frame involved. Why bother? Just made another 'horror in the woods movie' with stereotypes.

Strongly disagreeing with the critics consensus, I hardly think that this film has any sociopolitical subtext. Most certainly it is using scant historical references, but it is just a thin backdrop to generate another flick with morbid violence to no doubt satiate the cravings of the Millennial Gens who were raised on horror as an art form. 'Skillful' is hardly a word that should be used in the description of this woefully irreverent snapshot of the Mohawk Indian - whose real story is one to be respected.

Mohawk started off as a great movie but, towards the end, started to fall apart. I feel like they should've left out the fantastical elements.

I think the costume budget for this film was spent at the $2 store. I found it very distracting. They obviously couldn't find any native americans to cast as native americans either.

Instead of going for historical accuracy, Mohawk decides to throw in ghosts and whatnot towards the end and immediately goes from what could've been a great history film to a mess of a horror/slasher.

One of the worst movies I've seen. Poorly made; horribly acted. Huge waste of time. I tuned in because of the 83% fresh rating from critics. Perhaps the film became low budget after the critics were paid off? Certainly something going here, The film is objectively terrible in every facet. I'm only going with audience scores from here on.

I couldn't get past the first 40 minutes or so. I started watching this as it was on a 'best of 2018' list, clearly not trustworthy as are the so called professional critics that you can only think got paid off to give this a positive review. This is why the audience score matters more, because at least the audience is honest. This movie is an absolute mess of a plot, the story doesn't really develop well and the acting is some of the worse I've ever seen since Troll 2, dead pan deliveries and incredulous dialogue. Historically I can't say anything as I'm European and unfamilar with deep US history, but somehw even the Mohawks seem a bit off with their garments, at least compared to Geronimo (1993?), Last Mohican and even Dances with Wolves. This is an absolute waste of space on my hard drive.

THIS LOOKS LIKE IT WAS MADE BY SOME COLLEGE-AGED FRESHMEN. IT WAS JUST TERRIBLE. CLUNKY, POOR ACTING...JUST AWFUL.

I feel like this is one of those movies that because of its subject gets high marks by people who want to be pc principle. "Cough, cough (black panther) cough cough. I love period pieces, native american stories and horror movies so i thought for sure this would be a good one. Sadly no this movie was pretty awful all around bad acting unbelievable characters and a redicously thin plot. Wortha try but not what these brown nose "critics" pretend it is, just proof positive why you should skip their (professional) opinions all together

I almost quit after the first HALF HOUR BUT GAVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE. It works as a horror story/morality play . As a period piece it is a mess. By 1814, "Fort George" was no longer in American hands, the British had retaken it. Some of the early scenes are clearly in a tree farm, the trees are in rows. How do people travel in the wilderness without any gear? What 's with the steampunk sunglasses? The red miniskirt? DId the Mohawk wearing face paint 24/7? Who is the guy with the pipe, and if they are on a clandestine mission, why does he keep smoking, thus advertising his presence for miles? The Niagara frontier campaigns during the war of 1812 were a brutal series of attacks, counterattacks, raids and reprisals. Plenty to work from, A little research could have made this film more effective.

Painful to watch. Simply terrible.

This film is garbage. After reading some of the reviews from sindicated outlets, it makes you wonder who's payroll they are on. The story doesn't develop a good backdrop, the acting is atrocious, historically it is a joke; I mean, Come On, Man!!! You had me intrigued with the cool makeup and timeline, but this movie disappoints on every level. I fast forwarded through the scenes to get to the end, otherwise It would have been impossible to finish.
