I saw this when it came out and was disappointed. Probably would have given it 2 stars. Re-watching it in 2025, I've changed my opinion of it. Maybe it's because I came into this second watching 25 (?) years later with low expectations. Just see it for what it is - a blast to the senses.

An excellent musical that takes modern music pop hits and throws them into early 1900s France.

A Baz Luhrmann original seductive spectacular with phenomenal singing from Ewan McGregor, that falls into Luhrmann's typical love/hate storytelling style with bombastic cast work and chaotic editing overcrowding the substance.

In 2001 I found myself traveling through Europe on the Alaskan Permanent Fund Dividend and as it was running out, decided to fly back through Copenhagen. This movie was playing at a theater there. I bought a single ticket and proceeded to watch it four times. I wanted so desperately to come home, but could have stayed and simply lived in that theater with the movie playing over and over. Ewan's relentless, disarming optimism, Nicole's voluptuousness, and an unforgettable rendition of Roxanne by a narcoleptic, who would have thought.

Really idiotic boring film with no redeeming qualities

Almost 25 years after first watching this, this film ages like wine. It's still ground breaking in story telling and scope. It's the film that made Nicole Kidman a superstar. "Come What May" is one of those songs that sing to the soul.

An absolute masterpiece the music is spectacular, the storie is wonderfully told. You really feel the emotions of the characters and you will have a really enjoyable time watching this an absolute must watch the 2 main characters are phenomenal 5/5 stars A beautiful story

While the beginning may come off a little strange, i found this movie to be beautifully balanced between humour, dramatics, and drama. It reflects on the emotional hardships relationships can create and shows us how love is the only thing that truly lasts forever. It’s completely bizarre at times, but those moments make up for it.

The worst movie musical I have ever seen

The movie is quite boring and slow. The acting is a little bit Cringe and to be honest, I only watched this movie for Nicole Kidman.

Perhaps one of the best movies ever made. Wonderful performances, scenery, music and dance.

Moulin Rouge will dazzle even those who are the most dour on musicals, with its vibrant cinematography and fresh take on popular modern songs. I would definitely watch this one again.
