Mr. Roosevelt Reviews
It is the kind of movie you love or you hate, depending on how much you can relate. It is not for anyone. I unverstand, why people find Emily annoying, i felt that too, but I think she is also very realistic. And I laughed a lot during this movie.
A wonderful gem of a movie. I don't think it is a stretch to say this movie could have been Reality Bites for Millennials if it was more widely known, as it does a great job of capturing that moment in time and that time in one's life. The opening credits alone were more interesting and more moving than the billion dollar Marvel movie I had just given up on. I look forward to everything Noel Wells offers us in the future.
Funny, so many people from the audience give such bad reviews for this little gem of a movie. It's not at all fulfilling your expectations. We never know what will happen next. All characters are kind of fucked up and that's what we all are. I loved it. Found it authentic, at times funny, at times sad, but always felt connected.
One of the worst movies ever. Such a waste of time. Extremely boring and very predictable, the character is so freaking annoying. I'm so surprised it got such a great rate on rotten tomatoes, that's shocking. Didn't laugh at all, not even once. But I was so bored and annoyed. The acting was extremely bad, shameful!
This was not a good film. Don't be fooled by the 100% positive critic reviews - something is very off there. Storyline is unoriginal and nothing it did made me laugh. The protagonist is annoying to watch. I really don't understand what people see in this film. In fairness the acting is competent, but nothing worth watching is being acted out. Honestly felt like a giant waste of time.
There is not a single funny moment in this entire movie.
How come no one like this movie? Mr. Roosevelt is refreshing, amazing, entertaining and rewatchable. The story and characters have a way to relate to us. Such an underrated yet amazing film.
This movie is frustrating. Emily (played by an appealing and talented Noel Wells) is annoying. She is in a world that is the product of her own choices, and she rails against the unfair nature of the world for too long. She travels home to Austin, TX because her cat dies. She left her cat (and live-in boyfriend) behind to pursue her dream of making it in L.A. This dream, regardless of her chances, is her chosen path. So why is she spending the entire movie gein annoyed by almost everyone else in Austin, being sad about the stuff she left there. Who is supposed to solve her attitude? She is the only one who can decide what is or is not important to her. This movie is not nearly funny enough, though I love the character Jen and everything involving her. It tries to be a drama-dy, but just lands on self-serving drama for the most part. I laughed at the absurdity of the main character, after I had walked with her in empathy for the first 30-60 minutes. It's tragically awkward at times, but there's not much payoff for it unfortunately. SPOILERS She quits her job, alienates her ex and friends, and has no money. But at least she has figured out that she is her own worst enemy and maybe she should stop blaming others for not being where she wants to be in life. This movie seems like a long way to go for that simple realization.
A dramedy that is neither dramatic nor comedic. A twee, self-indulgent mess with characters behaving in ways no human in history would ever behave.
A good start in all roles by Noel Wells. Comedy for grown ups.
Waste of time. The producers tried too hard to make a quirky indie film but the writing is weak, the premise dull and the delivery cringe-worthy. I'm shocked this has 100% from critics...a good example of how misleading Rotten Tomatoes can be at times.
Wow, that sucked much ass. I think I could see what she (Noel Wells) was trying to get at, but it was not done in a way that I found particularly insightful, perceptive, or any ways entertaining, really. Yeah, there are plenty of people like some of the a-holes she encountered in what Austin has become (it's not the 80's, or even close to the 90's there now), but I felt that without the comedy then it those scenes where such people (self-absorbed, overly judgmental/projecting, pre-fabricated, marketing toolboxes, etc.) just fell flat. Too much of it seemed a mix of mock Linklater/Dazed & Confused, wanna-be social commentary, but mostly just a film student early try movie made with some friends and hangers-on. Pretty annoying. 2 stars- an extra half star for showing the a-holes for what they really were.
Absolute trainwreck of a movie. 2 extreme niche cliche characters and lifestyles collide and bring no comedic value, no emotion, nothing. Just aimless and boring. Don't waste your time. Not sure how the RT website gave a 100% rating.
Mr. Roosevelt is the story of a week in the life of Emily, a 25-year-old girl who has to reconcile her cat's passing, her ex-boyfriend's moving on to a new girlfriend, and her own abilities to still have no idea who she is or where she is going. The audience is asked to come along, hitting every bump along the way. But it isn't a bad ride.
It feels like a high school movie with characters in their twenties. The characters were flat. The plot line was predictable. Most of the characters were extremely unlikable. It is set up for the main character to grow and she never does.
A worthy successor to the 'Swingers' legacy, this perfectly-pitched, bitter-sweet 90 minutes, takes us into the heads' of a young collective trying to work out what the hell to do with the next 80 years'.
An interesting film, fun, likeable, I just cant quite see why it got such a great Tomatometer score. Yes the characters are well done and the story actually has a message - but - better than OK is as good as I can go.
Most unlikeable main character in a movie, maybe ever. The only thing that makes this movie funny is how cliché the storyline is (so bad it's good kinda thing). Indie cringe at its finest. Had the main character died instead of the cat I would've enjoyed it more.
